The weak electrical just won't run the lights or winch so I installed the alternator kit on the Rzr.
It is nice having all the extra juice.

Now I'm thinking the hole in the belt cover may be letting in sand contamination to the drive belt system, and perhaps I should remove the alternator drive pully and put a new cover on without the hole and fagetthaboutit.
Reliability is a BFD to us.

Waddaya think, back to stock, or let it run?:

What kind of accessories are you trying to power? We have a 700XP with Ipod stereo and two halogen lights. The OEM battery petered out after three months, so I replaced it with an Odyssey battery and all the accessories run fine now.

If it's like the Rhino it should have a cooling fan that is pushing air into the belt housing. If that's the case then there should be possitive pressure in the belt housing hopefully blowing out around the hole you cut for the alternator pulley helping keep dirt and sand out.

Have you had belt issues since putting on the alternator?

I have the odyssey battery too.
Maybe adding the alternator was overkill.
We run 6 hallogen lights and occasionally the winch.

What good would it be to keep dirt out if your battery's dead and you can't run it?
