I have a Spectra 24 XS with Ace Champion V-Drive:

Engine 555 cubic inch BBC

Ace Champion V-drive Gears 1X1:09

Propeller is a Stainless 14 LH 14 w/ 1 inch prop Shaft

Art Carr Turbo 400

Comes out of the hole good, but way to many RPM's (5000) top end. Prop Slip?

Any Ideas?

Thank You!

What size prop shaft? I have a garage full of props that didn't work on my 24XS. ,)

Fastest prop was a steel Braaksma 12/15 3-blade on 15% over gears.... mid 50's at Parker with a 500" motor. Most usable on our lake (35 mph limit) was a 14x16.

The Sanger 24XS has a 1-1/8 shaft and none of my old props fit. I borrowed a steel 12/15 3-blade last year and it didn't work good. Have a new 12-3/4 x 16 that has yet to be tested.

1 inch shaft. My original gears .15%, the boat did run pretty good with the 14x14 stainless. I currently have .09% gears.

Lake Arrowhead, California

I could also ship it to you through the UPS work account. Probably cost less than 3 gallons of gas to ship.

Phil Bergeron (rip) set up my Spectra24 with a 5 blade when he repowered it with a 496HO. He said it was to give the boat more transom lift.

What gears? What kind of performance?

@FrznJim I've never seen a V-drive with a 5-blade. 2 and 3 blade sure... how did a 5-blade work on your Spectra? When the new motor was dropped in did they move the strut at all? Did they move the motor rearward? Always interesting to hear how the different 24XS are setup as no two seem to be the same. What I enjoy is nobody can seem to agree on where the strut or the engine need to be when the horsepower greatly exceeds what they were shipping with when originally rigged.

Do you have any pictures of your setup with the 5-blade?

@SPECTRABRENT --- I found 4 more 3-blade cruiser props in my cabinet last night while looking for some exhaust flappers. You won't be spoiled for choice ;)

@SPECTRABRENT,

I've got 2 different 14/16 props. The blade shape, rake and cup is very different between the two. I have a bronze 14x14. I have some other Bronze prop but I didn't dig it out because it was the worst of the bunch. The steel 12/15 was my favorite but it didn't like the Arrowhead water and has some ugly pitting from electrolysis. I had the prop looked at and was told the pitting on my prop was considerably less worrisome than the erosion that takes place near the ear root on the high speed boats (like the 1000+hp running +50% gears guys).

The 12/15 requires a little finesse with the right foot or you can flash it right out of the hole. I'd start in 2nd (TH400) and shift to 3rd once I was at 30mph or higher. That prop was not a great "kid" prop but it was the most fun as it was easily the fastest at Parker / Havasu / Mead.

The 14/16 stainless (with some cup) really puts a load on the motor. It is great for skiing, wake boarding and pulling tubes because it pulls hard from a standstill. On Arrowhead at 5100' elevation I can run that prop in 2nd gear and never have to shift to 3rd as hits 35mph at around 3500rpm. If I shift to 3rd it really struggles to accelerate much but I can lug around the lake at a lazy RPM at 40-ish MPH. It's too much prop for my tired 500" motor and +15% gears to go fast but for our lake it works just fine. It keeps me from going too fast. ;)

I should have been more clear. I am not selling props. Brent is on his own personal Have You Tired A Different Prop adventure and I was going to lend him whatever he wanted to try out.

The 12/15 Braaksma is not for sale. That guy was a V-drive legend and someday I hope to have his prop recreated in Stainless.
