That sucks. Not too common, I see a lot of rusty pitted teeth normally. Anything in there rolling around that wedged that tooth? As far as oil goes I use ams oil sever gear 75-90w. Have also used redline oil but really like the Ams oil40's on the way this morn. Took everything else apart and cleaned and everything looks great. Got kinda lucky. Lol.
On a side note-what does everyone use for gear oil? I'm curious? I have swore by and used redline shockproof for a decade and never had a failure in anything until now. I even use it in a procharger that spins 50k+rpm.
Pondering options.
Only piece inside was the part that broke off the gear. As far as the gear oil goes. Thinkn about tryn Cen Pe Co Hy-Torque. Back east many swear by it for truck pulling gear cases and quick change rear ends in sprint cars. Kinda like the old Moreys from way back. That sucks. I’ve ran plenty of swepco over the years too and it’s good stuff for sure. Got away from the 250w diff oil as it was too thick and sticky. Ams oil was easier to deal with but both are greatSwepco. I built and serviced pro mod differentials and Swepco helped gear life..I know different dynamic but good oil.
