Would a swamp cooler work in Corona, CA as well as they do in Havasu? Wouldn't it be cheaper to run one of those then a home AC unit?

On the MSN weather it says that today the humidity in Corona is 21% and the humidity in Havasu is 4%. I wonder how high is too high for a swamp cooler to work well?

It'll work fine as long as the humidity stays down...When the monsoons come in late summer the humidity in havazoo gets in the 90s.

We have the same weather patterns for the most part, but are more influenced by the ocean breezes.

All in all though I'd stick with AC unless it was for a rental or your garage.

I have been told as long as the Dew point is below 45 swampers work.
the lower the dew point the better they work. They use alot of water too.

We have 2 A/C units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I was thinking of putting the swamp coolers in the garage to help cool the garage and downstairs. Just a thought!

Never been a fan of the swamp cooler contraption... IMO AC is better all the way around, and usually last a lot longer than the SCs

Swamp coolers are a fraction of the cost to opperate and about a 1/3 of the purchase price and in a dry climate they will last for a long time. They definitelty have their place.

As wet and dry bulb temps meet the swampers loose their effectiveness.
In that case, cooling the garage with a swamper and venting it through the (attic) crawl space really helps a lot while running the AC

We shut off the A/C's and run the house fan at night but even with that it's about $400 p/m. I had a brilliant idea to put the office in our garage so now I need to do something to cool it. If I put a HVAC line from the house into the garage I don't think it would be enough. I also remember living in havasu with my dad a while ago we would run the swamp cooler in the garage and it would cool the whole house.
