More than a million Californians have received or will soon receive a check for $21.65 as part of a Gas Gouging Lawsuit, according to the Attorney General's Office. This is a result of a 2020 Settlement with Dutch Company Vitol, S K Energy Americas, & S K Trading International in Korea. The Lawsuit charged these companies with driving up prices and profiting off an explosion at a refinery in Torrance, California, in 2015.
