I hated Time Warner when i had them years ago but getting tired of Directv. I know there have been several threads about cable and who to go with. I'm incurring specifically about Spectrum. Anyone have any good or bad insight?

Thanks,

I'm in the same boat....my bill went up again another 5 or 10. Hated TW too.....just getting tired of that damn DTV bill now. Don't even watch DTV as much as I used to....nOT really worth the $150 a month I give them. Considering Sling.....along with my Netflix. As long as I can get Sling w/local channels....ESPN...blah blah.

Question. ......should I NOT be still getting charged the stupid ass lease fee for each box I have? Waay outside of contract.....as I understood it....that fee was to pay the equipment initially right? That shoulD knock off at least $35/mo imo.

Have you called and told them to cancel your contract yet? if not do it today, they will give you a discount.

I had Charter (Spectrum) for a while. I still have their internet. I got rid of them when my phone automatically put their customer service # in my frequent contacts list. I was having THAT many problems with my TV service. Also, their box technology is pretty sub-par in my opinion.

I had Direct at my last house and wanted to try Spectrum (Charter) for something different but mainly to get away from AT&T internet. Long story short, I canceled Spectrum's tv service the first week. The equipment is very outdated as the boxes are HUGE and cannot be concealed in a cabinet since the remotes are not IR like the Direct equipment I had. The guide is also very dated in it's format. BUT the internet is much faster than the AT&T service direct offered. Now I have Spectrum (Charter) for internet service and Direct for tv. Direct tv bill is $55 a month for 2 years with 4 boxes and the entertainment package. Spectrum internet is $65 a month for 100 mbps.

i have had spectrum for over a year now and have their triple play package with no contracts. 1 HD DVR and 2 standard boxes the replay recorded shows in all rooms, 100MB internet and a phone i dont use but package is cheaper if you add it, i have my own modem and wifi router so saved there, i pay 145 after taxes. Never had issues with connection or speed drops/caps

Also with spectrum is you get access to the app so you can watch tv almost anywhere. Also if you are a customer you get access to free wifi to places that use spectrum internet. Our 19 restaurant locations in LA/SFV area have spectrum. But we dont offer free wifi to everyone, if you come in and use your Spectrum app and log in you get free wifi. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

We just gave spectrum TV the boot it was. We got dish, the install guy was showing us so many features I forgot most of them. And it came with a Echo Dot free and he was telling me that there is a app I can get where I can stream tv from home to my phone and then from my phone to the TV in my RV. I need to figure that out and get that setup.

The Spectrum installer just left.

DirectTV was willing to give me a $400 discount for the year. But, bringing on 2 new boxes would add additional charges and put me under a new 2-year contract, and I was already paying for a separate Internet connection thru Spectrum. I already had barebones DTV at $125, so there was not much they could do.

Spectrum gave me 1DVR box, 2 additional boxes, all the movie channels and football (their best channel lineup), a VOIP phone, and 100mb Internet for $145. So, considering I was paying $75 for a separate Internet connection - I am saving $50 even with Spectrum's best package.

Also, in my area, it was Charter before Spectrum. Maybe there's a difference between the former Time-Warner Spectrum, and the Charter Spectrum as I have had the Charter cable Internet since it came out in 99 - and it has been bulletproof.

Thus far, speeds are at 90, plus I'm getting 10mb on the upload, which is twice as fast (about fuggin' time). And now, I won't have a sticky/static IP address that I had with Spectrum business.

I shouldn't be renting them.........when I renewed my last contract, I kept all the equipment from my prior contract. If I remember right, the way it was explained was I could pay for all the new boxes....and have no monthly charges. So if I went the monthly route, like a lease....that would mEan I should own the equipment at the end of the 2 years right? So if I cancel.....I owe nothing past the 2 year mark. So why should I continue to pay a monthly for each box is my argument.

Always thought it was a monthly rental for equipment...let me know what you find out as I'm in the same boat.

Leasing is the same as renting. If you lease a car for three years when the contract is up you turn the car into the leasing company, you don't own any part of it. Same thing with DTV except that the lease continues for as long as you keep the service. When I had DTV they would upgrade my DVR and remote boxes for no charge if they had new equipment but you had to schedule a service call which cost $ 50.00 at the time and is the reason I dumped them. Had a problem with intermittent reception on some channels, DTV kept blaming the dish, which they give to you during installation, I told them it was the DVR. Finally broke down and scheduled the service and sure enough it was the DVR. Did DTV pick up the $ 50.00 service charge? Nope, so I kicked them to the curb. Damn dish is still on my roof though.

Say what you want about Spectrum but if something goes wrong they come out and fix it no charge unless the problem is something that belongs to the homeowner.

Yup. About 5-years ago whenever it would get really hot out, the connection intermittently slowed. It still had decent speed, but it was annoying. They sent out a couple of low-level techs, and eventually, a supervising tech came out who said it was the line from the cable node at the street, to my house.

The next day, they came out and replaced the underground line. No charge for any visits. :thumbsup

Well...the Spectrum DVR is archaic and illogical. It's really bad, as in, intolerable.

Really, a "search" feature is not possible?

Wife is pissed.

Very interesting. Our DVR has a search feature but we got it before Time Warner turned into Spectrum so maybe now all the equipment is decades old. I know that we used to have the 200 mps internet and now under Spectrum that is not available anymore had to go down to 100 mps. I would take the DVR down to a Spectrum location and ask about changing it out.

Boy do I miss Verizon FiOS... Frontier was horrible, and Spectrum internet has been fine so far. Their TV interface is ridiculous though, a blind deaf mute monkey could have designed it better.
