My girlfriend has a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 extra cab. The sticker on the door says 245/70/R17 but she likes when the tire fills up the wheel-well. It does look better. The current tires are Firestone Destination 265/70/R17

I am looking for a 265/70/R17. She wants a long lasting tire. I prefer a light truck tire not a passenger car tire. (Towing)

What do you like? What tire do you recommend?

All terrains/highways would work. Something with 55,000 to 70000 mile wear. Nothing with big groves in the tires, I don't want my boat to have chips, pits, or scratches from rocks.

I put Generals on my old Suburban and I'm real happy w/them soo far, granted I only have about 2000 miles on them. Not the red letter tires, btw Grabber HTS

No, unless Firestone did. I don't drive the truck unless I'm going to the lake.

Toyo AT2
Yoko Geolandar
BFG AT - there's an updated new one coming out soon, if not already
Nitto Terra Grappler
Bridgestone Dueler
...just a few of the good ones out there. I'm sure I missed a few.

After a lot of research I went with Nitto Terra Grappler's.

I tow a lot and have had many different tire brands. Worst tire was the BFG's. I wouldn't recommend them but many have had ok luck with them.

So far the Nitto's have been awesome and look great.

I would also look at Toyo's. They had great reviews in the towing forums too.

I've got Toyo AT2's on my truck. They look fairly aggressive but I can't really hear any road noise. They we some of the few in a 285/75 in a load range E. I think they are on back order but I was still able to find them. Just took a couple days of searching

Toyo AT2's are a great all around tire. New body style 07? Rancho quicklift and 285/70/17 or just 2 inch spacers with the 285's looks and rides great. Many of Toyo's tires are made here as well.

Bfg all terrains are tried and true also. Main thing when going up in size is to keep similar weight. The Bfg's and Toyo At2's are not heavy when compared to other tires in the category.

I have Nitto's on my pickup and they are nice but they are 35" mudders. To keep more in line with a touring tire... On my Suburban I had Yokohama Geolander HT/S. 2500 so E rated tires but I'm sure tread pattern would be similar and life would actually be longer without 80 pounds of pressure and 12,000 pounds of trailer behind. They were good. I just replaced a couple months ago and chose to go with the Big O Big Foot. The tread seemed nicer, the tire didn't look as ridiculously skinny on such a big vehicle, I saved a little bit of money, and they automatically come with a free road hazard replacement etc. warranty for like 60,000 miles or so. They are made by Cooper. Only thing is that if you look closely at the blackwall it says Big O or Big Foot etc instead of Yokohama etc. Doesn't scream cool. lol.

I have a 2007 Ford F-150 cew cab 4X4 The BFGF trail terrain are nice riding tires but the fronts wear out in 10,000 miles. I drive slow... Michelins are my next change, they ride good and wear like steel

We like the Toyo's. They are quiet and perform very well both on and off the road.

Agreed....

I swapped out the 33" nitto terra graplers for the new Toyo AT II on my wifes truck and the ride is better and the tire is quieter.

Both tires give great tire wear/mileage

If your front tires - any truck tire - is wearing out in 10k miles, IMHO you have a non-tire issue causing this.
I would find the root cause.

And for a truck, IMHO you should religiously rotate them every 5k miles :thumbsup
