My father in law bought a regency 25' tri toon with a verado 250 that came with a 19 pitch prop and tops out at about 46 mph. Hole shot lays you back in your seat when the supercharger kicks in but he does not do a lot of water sports so he was wondering if he propped up would he be able to see more top end.

Any opinions here on the board?

So i tried it. Verado 300, 25ft tritoon. My wide open is 46 all day everyday . I cant remember what size though. But up one. Same deal 0-40 is quick.
I lost 200 rpm and gained about 1-2 mph. Pretty minimal. So going up another pitch would have dropped another 200 rpm and prob lost mph

In the end i did not feel it was worth the money for a new prop. Got water loaned it to me to try.
I also usually have just me and wife on board. So i was affraid if i had 6 adults that bigger pitch would real bog the verado
They love running at high rpm. Next is raising the verado to the next hole. Right now its pretty deep. Im gonna try that this summer. It should take 30 minutes at best to raise it

At the end of the day 46 on 3 aluminum tubes is fast enough. Prob too fast

Good point. Fag. I will have both boys back! No more working weekends for P.

The one size up would ok. Id rather spend the 500 bucks on more speakers or a bigger swamp cooler

What RPM are you turning?
If you are hitting the rev limiter then go up a pitch.
If you are not I would not go up a pitch.

How do you figure out if it’s to deep besides raising one hole? How far below the tube does is sit?
I’m 23ft w/verado 350 it pulls hard on the low end and I was thinking trying to go up one prop size also

So thinking about the motor sitting low or raising it up 1 hole ... how does that effect speed drag when you trim it up?
Wouldn’t raising it up one hole reduce your ability to trim up the motor

I’m kind of a newbie when it comes to boats

A family friend had a 26 with a 250 Honda on it. It never really ran that well and we raised the motor up 1 or 2 holes ( this was 5-6 years ago) and it ran quite a bit better. Much more responsive. I think it has a 19 as well and runs around 45-50.

I have a 25 Crest with a 250 and 14p prop. Top speed is 46mph, loaded with stuff and people that drops to 40-42mph. I tested a 19p prop I have and it’s a little big for the top end but still rockets out of the hole and cruise speed is unreal. My motor was buried so I raised it one hole: what I noticed was less trim was needed, boat runs flatter and smoother and top end was about 1-2mph. I still have to additional holes I could go up and all the measurements say I would still be 1” deeper than Mercury minimum recommend x-dimension.

Anyone of you thought about installing a jackplate to adjust motor height?
You could then set it at any preferred height for your current situation.
They make mechanical and auto models. Just a thought...

I’ve looked into it. Hydraulic is just to pricey and I can achieve the same as the manual with just moving holes.

I’m leaning to have the ECU programed by whipple. Turns my 250 into a 350 for $800. I would get way more from that vs a jack plate. It’s all about the cruise speed vs rpm for me. If I could pull the 19p prop I have it drops my rpm 1000+ at 35-40mph. That equals huge fuel savings.

How many people did you have on board? A 25' tritoon holds a lot of people and gear. You don't want to lug the engine when loaded. Better to be a little under proped when lightly loaded than to be over propped

I looked at a jack plate. Too expensive . I have no idea how to measure if it makes a change or not, or where it should be. But it's a easy test! I figure it can't hurt

I have a bennington triton with the 300 verado. It has great holeshot and tops at 51 with perfect conditions--though I have a double bimini that I never take down. With four people and a full load it tops at 48-49 and this is with a GPS speedo. It is a 25 foot with a 16P.
Cheers, Steve
