The company I work for built this drag strip around 2000ish. I year later pro teams were coming for Winter Test and Tune. Kenny Bernstein proclaimed it as the smoothest track he had ever ran on and sent our paving foreman a personal letter for that.
My first exposure to NHRA style drag racing came when a buddy had an extra ticket to Test and Tune '04ish and invited me. I was reluctant and he said we would see pro racers such as John Force and Kenny Bernstein, I said who, lol? Anyway went and was blown away by the cars. I was lucky enough to be in the wrong place by Force's motor home as he was going in and asked me "what you got"? I said what, he replied you want something autographed? Oh sure I said and pulled my hat off for him to sign. About then the crowd on the rope saw this and started coming toward him for autographs, he quickly ducked into the Moho. Ashley was there with her Super Comp dragster making passes too, I was thinking how can someone so pretty have big enough balls to drive one of theses, lol? Made my first trip to Firebird in '04 and been to every race there since.

I thought the Tucson dragstrip had been there longer than that? One of the reasons Force did test and tune there was he had raced Altereds at the track for years. Cool they got a division 7 race back, should be a good show.

Tucson Raceway has been there a lot longer, maybe 70's. It's possible there was a drag strip somewhere else on the Fairgrounds but I remember they lost the East entrance when the drag strip opened.
