I have the old GM 7127 55 amp ? alternator on my boat . I want to upgrade to a newer / smaller
higher output alternator , what works and fits without too much fabrication ? It’s a v belt .

Mechman makes a killer alternator for marine use. Options for a v belt as well as a serp belt unit (serp belt makes more amps).

How much bigger are you looking to go?

Pretty sure you can get a easy swap in 65 amp.

They have some that can go as high as 105 amps in a factory sized alt case.

Then you have the 165 amp from Mechman

And Ballamar I think goes up to 240 amps.

One thing to pay attention to though, is where does the alt start making higher amps. Some don't make much until 2000 RPM. Which means you're not making much while just idling.

The Mechman and Ballamar start making a lot of amps in the idle RPM range.

Boat does a lot of idling , want amps at low rpm . Want a smaller / more compact modern unit that will fit on existing bracket . Easy hook up

I have one of the gm style alternator got it years ago from guy in Parker it finally went out. He installed a rear cover that was marine approved with the screens.

But if you upgrade your amperage make sure you upgrade the wire from alternator to battery. Those 10g are only good for like 25-30 Amps at best. I used 4 gauge for mine.
