Universal Elements' post about the 12v floor jack and impact gun got me thinking...

I've had a flat on a triple axle trailer once and a lost hub and completely lost rim on the freeway once as well on a dual axle trailer. Luckily had straps to pull axle up.

I always had a star, a home made ramp I could pull the trailer up on to hang a flat tire off for changing, a jack just in case, a spare of course and some tie downs if I needed to strap up an axle or something.

This 12v floor jack and impact gun is pretty slick. A buddy of mine just made these for his Cigarette trailer and they are bad ass - two spares WITH HUBS that can be put on in the field. I plan on putting a box on the trailer with a set up like above, straps, breaker bar, etc.

What do you guys carry?

Here's the Hubs / spare set up. I think I'd like to do something like it.

XDS on my side or between the seats. But for the trailer you covered most of it. Truck box has every fluid for the truck and some blocks, come a long, tow strap etc. Also a small toolbox with bearing and trailer related items and spare that floats from truck to truck depending on who is driving. Magnetic trailer lights if buying a new boat Incase wiring it shot.

I've only had to do it on a tandem for a short distance slow and steady and it all worked out ok but I can see it being nightmarish if you have to go a ways.
In the 10-15 miles I did do it I probably stopped 4 times to check it.
Have same equipment in my 5th wheel but more than likely I'd be summoning my Insurance towing if it wasn't a simply tire swap.:D

Add in a Breaker bar aka cheater bar. I always also carried a couple old beach towels and gloves. The Arizona pavement gets fricking hot. I have a laser thermometer and would check the tires and wheel hubs for temperature variations. Can of fix a flat, spare bearings, grease and appropriately sized tools to replace em. Only for long trips... A couple jugs of water and snacks in case you gotta spend the night out there somewhere. Flashlights.

Usually a Glock.

But also a jack, impact, tie downs and blocks and a full set of tools with the boat.

I was going to buy the swing arm for the boat trailer. IT contains the swing arm (detachable) with the hub and bearings ready to go. Extreme carries them. They are made by the axle manufacturer. The brakes just swap really quickly.

Lightweight Floor jack at least 2 ton cap.
You'll probably only use it once in your lifetime in a tricky situation but well worth it,, you'll be glad you did.
Ratchet straps and basic socket and tool kit.

We broke down in Shreveport LA and in no time at all thugs were checking out what they could do with us.
So a nice compact 9 is essential.

I guess it depends on what you consider a long distance. If I drive more than an hour and half to water that is a long distance and I don't make the drive.:p

That’s funny, I stopped carrying all of this because I told myself if I bring it, I’m going to need it and if I don’t, then I won’t LOL

Hydraulic Jack, Spare, chain to hang axle's. tire iron, towels, gloves, grease, and hand tools. Lost a bearing last Labor Day not too far from the house. Limed it back home and rode with my parents all weekend. Not a fan of long distance axle hanging towing.

Ironically enough my dad towed our little jet boat on a single axle for 25 years(including to Wisconsin and back) with no spare, no nothing. Never had a problem.

I've pulled the race trailer across the country multiple times. All I can say is Thank God I has a makita with a cut off wheel and the generator in the race trailer. I had rubber completed knotted around the axle. I had to cut the rubber to get it off

That is a great idea for our big boat. I carry 3 spares but it’s a hassle to be switching the axle box’s from trucks to Moho and they take up room. Gonna have to get the welder fired up. Make sure the axles are greased really good for corrosion purposes and galvanize everything.

I have AAA Premier with RV & the Good Sams Club RV Platinum Complete plans. Being stuck on the side of the road, waiting for help in heat or cold is no fun. I do carry my whole house when we are traveling. Something like a tire change or bearings are no problem. You can be on your way in minutes instead of hours. Compressors, bottle & floor jacks, cordless impact gun and all sorts of parts/tools. One thing that has come into really handy is a come along and heavy duty straps. Saved my ass a couple of times.

One of the most important things on this list. GLOVES! That metal and ground is brutal in the 110+ heat.

I carry an old entry mat like this. Rolls up nicely but saves you in case you need to put your knees or lay on that hot concrete/asphalt/sand.

I used to carry two spares for the trailer and pretty much every thing else that others have mentioned when I towed from Lancaster to the Delta or the Central Valley, Park Moabi, AVI or Big Bend State Park.
I always made sure I had my AAA Premier Member card with me.
You guys seem to have it covered and hopefully all of your journeys will be safe.
Fortunately now living in Mohave Valley I no longer make those long hauls.
I miss my friends, the Delta & Central Valley trips, however, so long Ca, Bye Felicia. :p
Everyone have safe journeys and safe boating this season.:)
