Stay at Harrah's. Every room has two bathrooms. Makes it nice when getting ready or dropping a deuce. ;) Ask for a California facing room. If your looking for a nice dinner I would go to the top of Harrahs and eat at Fridays Station. Make a reservation and ask for a window table. Try to plan it around sunset. The views are stunning. There is also 19 Kitchen at the top of Harvey's which has equally good views.

I took this picture from there.

If you want to get out and see the lake maybe think about taking a cruise on one of the paddle wheel boats. Tahoe Queen is right out of South Shore and MS Dixie is out of Zephyr Cove. Or think about driving around to Sand Harbor to see the water and beach. The water in Sand Harbor looks like the Caribbean. If you want to get a drink think about driving over to the Beacon/Camp Richardson. They have a drink called the Rum Runner which is delicious although it's much better on a warm day. They also have a dock you can walk out on. Maybe take a drive to Emerald Bay if you head towards the Beacon.

When I lived out that way and took people on a tour of the lake, we always stopped at Gar Woods for some reason. I don't remember it being the best food but it was good and the view was incredible.

If you make it down the hill to Carson City, Adele's is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. An amazing menu.

My wife and I stayed at the Rainbow Lodge once driving back in a monster snow storm. Bed and breakfast isn't necessarily my thing but it was nice and the restaurant/bar had great drinks as well as really good food.

I just noticed The Rainbow Lodge is closed when I looked at the web site. Sucks, it was pretty cool.

If you want some great Italian grub, hit Teps Villa Roma. It's right there in South Lake. That's a must stop for us on all ski trips.

We've stayed at Tahoe Beach and Ski Club.

It's a pretty nice place near the water. The gondola ride is expensive but the views are pretty amazing.

We got a room at the Hard rock was half the price of Harrahs and book dinner at 7pm @ Harrahs. Going to do the gondola @ 3 because we where told there is a after ski party/happy hour from 330 to 5. The Tahoe Queen rides start a 12pm so we missed that......so maybe on the way out tomorrow will do that but we will have a 8 hour drive home so that might be a long day. Thanks for the help guys!! Frank

GRADS, trying to plan a trip up for this summer. We are bringing our boat, 3yr old son and thinking of staying a week. Most likely we will invite another family to come with us/meet us there. We have never been and i see you know quite a bit about the area.

1) Would you stay at a hotel/lodge?

2) Would you rent a house in the keys, or another place?

3) What other options are there for lodging up there?

4) Sory to hijack Franks thread!

Thank you in advance,
Bo

In my opinion, if you are bringing the boat the only way to go is to rent a house in the Tahoe Keys. Nothing like walking 10 steps out your backdoor to the boat. Just make sure when renting that you get a house with a dock. Also keep in mind that if you get a house buried deep in the Keys it can be up to a 2 beer drive out to the lake. ;) If you decide to rent in the keys shoot me a PM with the address and I can tell you what I know. I've stayed in over 20 houses in there.

Here's a couple places that I rent from.

I have been looking in the keys a little. It's funny you mentioned the idle times out to the lake, I was wondering about that. I appreciate the refural rental links of these places. I will take you up on the p.m offer when I narrow the search. Looks so awesome up there, can't wait!

Cheers,
Bo

By the way, don't wait too long to book it. The sooner the better because they fill up fast for the summer especially for the 4th of July and the Celebrity Golf Weekend. Also some of the condos in the marina are nice, plus the gas is right there and sometimes they have live music at night.

If you played your cards right you could have Grads take you for a boat ride around the lake, just offer to pay for the launch...

We want to come back later this winter and stay for a few nights. Would like to find more of a cabin feel motel/hotel than a casino stay. I will say the Hard rock is a nice little casino that took me for a couple bucks but everyone here has been very nice and I would stay here again.........EVERYONE in Tahoe has been super nice and very friendly to talk to. What to do and where to eat in Lake Tahoe? Here till tomorrow, also where to stay. Just pulled into town and ready to eat. Frank

If you are on the southside of Tahoe:
If you love Italian you have to eat at Passaretti's, one of the best lasagna's you will ever have. If you love steaks you have to eat at Ciera steak house in the MontBlu casino. Amazing 3 course meal for 35 bucks on Sunday, Wed, Thur night that rivals a Del Monico's top tier filet, amazing onion soup, cesars salad and huge awesome desert or fish dinner for sure has won awards 8 years in a row. For Breakfast you have to try Driftwood cafe right next to the Marriott Grand Hotel on the bottom floor, one of the best breakfasts in town. Tons more great places to eat way too many to list that is for sure.

We never go to Tahoe without eating at all three...sometimes twice or even three times depending on how long we are there. Red Hut is also great for breakfast as well, if you want a diner feel for breakfast go to Earnies right next door to Passaretti's.

Awesome pictures! That place never gets old to me. We are very fortunate to have something like that so close to us.
