As I get older, and read more outlets internationally, I've come to a conclusion.
The difference between a hostage and a prisoner has nothing to do with the captives, and even less to do with the captors. The only real difference it seems is who writes the story which is read.
"Died", "murdered" or "killed", kind of the same. The general meaning is someone ceased to live. Yet, the words generate different responses. Died may be of nature, but the other two mean their life was taken at the hands of another, or by outside means.
Interesting how people have an individual perspective, but that perspective is formed by statements of someone else's interpretation of events they may or may not actually know much about.
