My 2 y/o RTIC cooler (soft sided) has come unglued at the zipper strap and the lid. Looks like rubber and the RTIC soft side material

I called RTIC, hoping for any kind of customer satisfaction love but only got the recommendation to use 5200 to re-glue it

I assumed 5200 is not appropriate adhesive for something like this as I've usually seen it used for bulk head fittings and things like that..

I tried some only to be frustrated after 48 hours still wet and didn't even look like it was gonna work..

Anybody got any suggestions? The area is obviously subject to a lot of abuse

How about some good old fashion Rubber Cement. Use it on both pieces.

I bet a thin layer of gorilla glue, but make it very thing, because it will foam up and expand.

They are right to advise using 5200. It's about the most bombproof adhesive that will hold those two materials.
I'd advise taping off the areas adjacent and wipe on a thin pass on both pieces, let sit for a min and then clamp the pieces together with thin strips of wood and some spring clamps, for 24-72 hrs. The rapid dry 5200 works as well and cures faster.
Have some acetone or white gas to clean up with.

Get some shoe goo in there. .... bastard will NEVER come loose again and it'll stay flexible too.

Clean it good first with rubbing alcohol 😉
shoo goo is great. I use it on a lot of stuff.

I had a sole completely seperate from a hiking shoe. Shoo goo’d it and I wore the shoes until they wore out

I wasn't happy with the quality of my RTIC product it was an insulated tote bag and the zipper broke almost immediately. I went on their website and it stated that the bags had a one yr warranty so I didn't rush i used it most of summer fixing the zipper whenever I needed to. Well in fine print I found out later the insulated bag only had a 90 day warranty so fuck them.

Oh and since no one has said it use flex seal hahahahhahaha. I used gorilla glue to attach some weather stripping to my front door it seems to be holding up well.

I have 2 of those coolers holding up good. Wonder where @Waffles has been. He dropped them off to me at Echo. For a hook up deal.

That stuff comes in handy. I used shoe goo + gorilla tape on a little hole in our 3 seater towable like 6 years. Still holding today 😎

I'm pretty sure that was glued together with heat + pressure.
I'd be getting a shoemaker's awl and stitch kit and sewing it back together.
I like that idea... thought it would be great to glue and sew it

When I tried the 5200 it was nearly impossible to get both parts to compress together during drying.. I tried several small furniture style clamps but still a PITA around the radius corners..

I'm thinking maybe I'll cut some plywood in the radius shape and clamp on both sides for a tight compress

The same thing happened to mine, although not as big of a section...I looked on my workbench, and had some ShoeGoo laying there, figured I'd just dab some on because I was headed out...its been holding ever since....

The more I research looks like is been an issue that has plagued RTIC but they won't honor any complaints out of warranty... A whole lot of dissatisfied customers...
