Curious why canam uses a three radius rod designed vs others with a two rod design.

Ya. Found some of your posts on it. That's a nice looking oval window. I'm amazed at how the CanAm dwarf's it.
Thank you. The canam is pretty big and the Vw is pretty small 😁

How do you like the New R?
Have you driven an X3 ? If so what are the differences that stand out to you?

Your R looks sweet!

In theory It allows a better alignment of the toe through the suspension cycle vs. solid mount to the trailing arm for the toe.
That's definitely what it appears to be for. It being in line with the axle centerline has to be more for alignment purposes than triangulation. Kind of makes sense, seen a few other cars that could use some adjustments after bad landings.

That and Polaris had patented 2 radius rod design already.

Polaris also had a issue with the 2 radius arms for awhile they would pop a cv out when the shocks fully extended(jumping, ect). Because of misalignment at full extension. But that is back when the 900s first came out.

The 3 bars allow the motion of the tire to stay more in a straight line in its range of motion where as 2 the motion creates a radius.

I've been working on it. Have to replace all 12 rod uniballs. Those are not cheap. Discovered cracks in the chassis. Welded some reinforcements. Engine seal leaking, steam clean and re-torque. Prepped CV joints, a lot of $ in axles on my bench.

Those radius rods and arms just bend if I look at them on my X3.😂 (And sometimes for good reason!)

Have you seen the 2022 rear knuckle upgrade for older x3?

I just finished doing it on my car - they beefed up the rear knuckles

I never thought of replacing those. What's the issue with reusing?

They can lose their tension or lose the square edge that holds them in. I have not heard of that being a big issue with Can Ams though. And Can Ams usually don’t lose axles unless you have broken other stuff, or stuff is worn out.

It’s good practice, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it either.
