Following a storied 44-Year history, Fountain Powerboats has found a new niche, premiering its first-ever dual console 39DX at booth 2017 of the Broward Fort Lauderdale Convention Center. Though hardly a new concept (think: Robalo R317, Pursuit DC 365 and Tiara Sport 34LX), thanks to Fountain’s fine styling touches and talent for extracting speed – the flagship boat builder has reinvented the DC, flipping the model's former, no-nonsense utilitarian reputation.

Tying together a walk-thru bowrider with a typical center console, the 39DX comes to market with a single passageway up the middle and unlike the customary cc with a middle console and walkways on both sides… to the left is spacious seating area and to the right is the helm station.

8 Top Takeaways

1- Power options range from V-8 300Rs to V-8 500Rs, but the triple 400 Merc Verados on the transom of hull No. 1 tell you all you need to know. Hitting 70 mph and averaging 1 mpg at mid-40s cruising speed, the 39-footer performed like a tried-and-true Fountain.

2- Adaptable in multiple ways, the 39DX Lounge offers maximum seating options; the 39DX Standard has a shorter stern and dual access points to the transom; and the 39DX Fish package is equipped with rear livewells, rocket launchers and other angling amenities.

3- An all-weather boat capable of extending the season and escaping the elements… special thought went into developing the molded hardtop with power sunroof, stretching 6 feet and 11 inches off the deck; the glass which goes all the way to the top; and the optional isinglass drop-down curtains which enable the cockpit to be climate controlled with a reverse cycle 16,000 BTU heat and air conditioning unit.

4- There’s a generous 23-inch walkthrough (standard is 19 inches) between the two consoles, and the center windshield providing access to the bow opens and closes manually, meaning it won’t break.

5- A special middle panel for behind your back, a bow filler cushion and well-protected high bulwarks make the forward-facing social zone a popular spot.

6- An ergonomically-situated throttle-shifter on the gunwale, a C-Zone switching system, a 9-inch Vessel View above head and twin 16-inch monitors keep the dash in the double-wide helm station simplistic.

7- Down below, a convertible settee cabin with microwave and sufficient cabinet stowage sit to the left, and an electric flush head locker is to the right. Outside, the rear starboard galley features plenty of space for prepping, a sink, fridge and grill.

8- On the single-level boat, an add-on bow Sailshade, transom SureShade and Seakeeper 3 gyro stabilizer keep the rays and rocking to a minimum.

Plotting a new course with an entirely fresh build is one thing, staying true to the maker’s core-value of performance is another; fortunately Fountain is off to a great start with its first dual console model and has succeeded with both feats!
