Below is a link for an enhanced Google map centered on the Sand Fire. This map has a number of GIS (Geographical Information System) overlay layers that can be turned on/off. (Sun 7/24 2pm) Quick update on the SAND FIRE... As this is mostly in Angeles National Forest, Air Ops is only called upon when needed from USFS. Their contract helicopters and air tankers are handling the brunt of the fight from the air.
Copter 15 was just requested back into the fight. There has been a shift and increase in wind. As a result all air tankers have been put on hold, as its not conducive for fixed-wing operations. The fire is making a new run on the north side. Fire headed toward Acton and as such evacuations have been ordered. CHP has roads blocked at 14/Soledad, Crown Valley and Aqua Dulce off ramps. Strike teams and additional resources are being sent towards Acton.
As a reminder, keep the firefighters safety in mind if you're in these areas. Pull to the right for lights and sirens. The fire scene is not a place to hangout and get good Instagram shots. This also goes for taking pics or videos of the helicopters. Please keep your distance as the pilots are busy flying, listening to radios and watching for other aircraft. They don't need to be worried about people on the ground. And lastly... this is a NO DRONE ZONE! A drone was spotted earlier today which shut down air operations in one area of the fire. Please keep them put away and let the air crews do their jobs safely.

Thank you for the info Gramps. I found out more current info on this fire from you, than all the other media. Smoke is getting really really bad out here again. Finding out just where the fire is, is a great help. Have a daughter coming home from beach area tonight. Have already called and told her take the long way around and up the 15 to 138. Wow is right. Went out on the lake and it was actually quite nice until about noon. Then you could see the fire had picked up again. I feel so bad for the people that have lost everything. I can't even imagine my life long belongings and everything I worked for just being gone.

Updated freeway closure information

FREEWAY CLOSURE a/o 4:01pm 07/24/1

The 14 freeway is closed at the I5 interchange, all the way north to Ave N .

All traffic is being routed onto the 5 fwy. Expect delays.

Oh yea I know it's crazy! Reminds of back in I think 09 when we had the fires in Steve Ranch that burned for days.

Growing up in this town I don't recall this many fires when I was a kid. Crazy
