Seems to be south/ south west maybe 20mph winds. But the fires create their own wind, so maybe higher the close you get

Do you know which way the wind is blowing and how hard? My house is in Fair Oaks right under the fire.

Lots of wind direction change throughout the day for various reasons. I'm up here with my department right now. We are going back out to protect more homes tonight.

The reason for the white clouds


It is a pyrocumulous cloud, or fire cloud, "that is created from very intense heat at the surface, usually from wildfires," explained Gary Robbins, resident Sciencedude at the Orange County Register. "The lower part of the cloud is gray, and the upper reaches are white a normal shading, says the National Weather Service. The clouds are about 15,000-feet high."

Winds are 22+ up in hi dez, but it has cleared us out, our winds are out of the southwest. From my vantage point the smoke plume looks better. I can tell its blowing towards Vegas, like a frieght train.

Your in the clear, strike teams are at Acton park across from the store. Smokey, yes. Windy, yes. Fire, nope

Tonite is much nicer here as far as the smoke goes, they threw all the tankers at it today, non stop. This has made a significant differance, the mountains are painted red with Fozchek, even many houses, cars, pools and yards.

Sand fire...35,000+ acres
Station fire 2009....160;000+ acres

Same areas, cept the Sand fire terrain did not burn in '09 for the most part.

He lucked out. tell him to go buy a few lottery tickets. Reports now that is 40% contained and another week for full containment.

6 days in and its still very smoky, probably from backfires and island burns. The air quality is affecting our family, this part sucks. We just gotta tough it out. Great job on the containment, thanks very much.

Lucky!!! We lived in that same exact space during 2011. Dick head Frank was the manager. Glad to see his rig survived.
