I believe he was being pursued, but that's not CHP. I'm going with ICE, given the area. I could be wrong and pretty much always am.
Possibly I heard he was fleeing a previous hit and run collision which seems true since that was one of the charges he was booked on

I had an appointment in Carlsbad this morning. Stopped at my office to get my computer at the same time this happened. If not, I would have been there around this time........fucking drunk asshole.

Crash is at 2:15 (warning graphic)

Check out the two units on the shoulder at around 0:10. Seems like they were waiting for this jackass to drive by and join the pursuit.

Looking at the first video it looks like he might have pushed the Altima underneath that Tahoe. The momentum he had and the damage to that car. Wow. I agree the guy should just be terminated. That was hard to watch.

If he was indeed being pursued by cops, there will be a serious protocol review, and explains the speed.

Ok I think your right. But why all the swerving etc than nothing for the last what 1000 yards before the hit?

I think it was DUI drugs, not booze. Dude was on a good one whatever it was he was on.

Really fucking sad and I’m on this stretch of highway every few days. Usually earlier than 7:30 but it does bring shit into a bit of perspective. You really never know when you leave the house to earn a paycheck...

Crazy really, I can't believe what people do. I passed a car 7 years ago on I-15 going 70. They had no clue they were on the wrong side as I passed them at 5AM. Than basically this same thing happening right behind me earlier this year....drunk lady 65 mph right into the back of people stopped at a light.

Not sure the passenger in the Yamas van lived.

You can see the woman in the car, or what’s left of the car if you look carefully. Sad deal. Really puts the law of motion in perspective

My friends knew the driver of the Altima, their daughters played softball together for 10 years. So sad and senseless.......

Sad part is that this stupid state will probably plead him down to Vehicular Manslaughter, give him 10 years, and he will be out in 5.

I have a question...does anyone here get or know how you get drunk to the point of doing this if that is what happened? I don't know what but this seems like something more.
I’m a black out drunk. At about .30 bac I go into autopilot. I walk around slurring and functioning but if you look into my eyes you can see I’m not there. My brother knows the look very well. I can go on auto pilot at lets say 10 and not go to sleep till let’s say 2. I’ll wake up the next day with no idea of what happened while on auto pilot. I was blacked out but awake. That’s why I don’t drink. It’s fucking scary

RIP to All!!!
after watching the video, the 1st thing that came to my mind... if I saw that truck pass me with that speed and then see the carnage.... if I personally would of seen the driver walk away from that... Id grab a 2"×4" then ruin his life and mine...

I can only hope he BURNS in HELL!!

A few months ago I was heading west on the 10 around 8am, traffic slowed down and I realize a white Silverado is not. I was in the 2 lane & stopped, the #1 was still slowing. The Silverado, still going at least 50 or so and moves into the median just In time to avoid cars, 2 right tires off the ground, then 2 left tires.......I have no idea how he managed not to hit the divider or any vehicles:eek:. He had some driving skills. Must have fallen asleep or been texting. He exited at Cherry ave, to change his pants I’d imagine ;)

I have a couple of friends like this. One shot too many, an Irish goodbuy later and it's the last time you see them. Autopilot takes over. You could throw them up shit Creek without a paddle and theyd still manage to find their way home somehow. It's pretty impressive to witness.

Me and my friends call that "Time Travel". Not making light of it, I have never been in that state from drinking or drugs. That's plain scary though and I don't think I could ever put my body or mind in that frame though my own doings. Self Control issues I guess.

RIP Janet. You shouldn't have died on the freeway like that.

Damn, never thought of that. My best friend was killed by a wrong way driver on the 5 South after Pendleton near Las Pulgas. We chipped in money to put up a sign at the location, the guy had gotten on the wrong direction from the rest stop. Drunk of course :(

I would try and go to the restroom and look into the mirror and kind of gauge where I was at drunk wise. I could basically feel the change happen but it was too late because I had already drank too much, it was just catching up. .26 and .34 dui’s. I have no business drinking and anyone with problems like me doesn’t either. Luckily most people don’t have the problems I do and really can be responsible

God damn.

As many of you may have noticed over the years I’m not one to just say kill this asshole or kill that Asshole over any little thing. In fact I often go against the popular opinion in that arena.

I’m saying it here, March that fucker out back and put a bullet in his skull.

The Driver of that truck should be strung up and hanged in front of the families that suffered by the actions of this POS....That POS needs to be 6 feet under and in the bloodiest way...anyone that gets drunk and drives putting others in harms way deserves to be dead not their victims (I am not talking about 2 beers, or had a drink or two I am talking about impaired to the point where it effects a persons ability to make smart choices like NOT TO DRIVE AFTER DRINKING more than a drink or two). POS PERIOD!

What an absolute horrific accident, i only hope that victim went quickly and without suffering. As for the POS that hit her, i hope he gets the poison needle but being as its cali he will probably just get a stern talking to if that. I go to work at 430 am in Vegas and have learned to be alert of the roads, quite a few drunks on the move at that time but this lady probably never saw it coming

It’s CA

Fucker is likely to have a statue erected as a hero that was a victim of an out of control police pursuit.

Just saw a video of a car doing a 100 plus in Newport beach earlier wrong way in the fast lane. Hit a lady head on and killed her. No more fast lane for me.

...A dirty deeds done dirt cheap guy is in order for this guy...jeez...how in the fuck could someone do this...
...I’ve done all nighters plenty of times...but never decided to get in my vehicle and try to blend it into the morning traffic...If in fact this was the premise???...particularly at 100 miles an hour...I’ve always waited till I knew I was good (well pretty good) before I would drive home...couple hour sober up kind of deal...

The sad thing is crimes like this have been happening for ages, we just get to see dashcam footage these days.

Short of a big rig, I don't think you can put yourself in a big enough vehicle to protect from a collision like that... Damn.

They had one just like this in Las Vegas about eight months ago, 110 miles an hour on city streets and killed a seven-year-old boy when he hit the car from behind.

I know it’s difficult to believe but the feds just got this asshole in Mexico hiding out. Now back in the USA.

This borders on the edge of incomprehensible to me right now. I could only watch the video once. All your comments fill in the rest of the details I don't care to see at this time. I hope that beautiful lady was looking off at something wondrous and never saw it coming. To have to realize that at the last moments of your life is un-imaginable. I hope some how she felt no pain. RIP Janet Genao and prayers to your loved ones missing you and hurting right now. You all deserved so much better than this. I hope her beautiful smile and spirit brighten the stars of the heavens and someday warm the hearts of her loved ones.

I think the reason this all really hits home is the location and time. Most inmates have jobs to go to, and freeways to drive.

I have been in two wrecks on the freeway. One was in the fastlane at the 10 and 710...traffic stopped, and I could see the lady behind me, head turned, talking to her passenger. The impact pushed me into several cars ahead, and shorted my 93 Mustang over 4ft. Luckily, she was in a rental car, smallish Camry thing. We all walked away...she probably hit me at 55-60. The other freeway wreck I was in was just me, asleep. Thank God I didn't hurt anyone else...I didn't walk away from that one. In fact, it was over a month before I walked with a walker.

I really feel for the first on scene, as well as first responders. I have witnessed two fatal accidents, and pulled over to help those that could be. What you see is etched in your mind...no matter how much you want it to go away. Pictures don't carry the same horror as life. I don't know how police officers and firemen deal with it. It's been years, and I can still see details, and yet I can't tell you where I left my keys.

This poor woman was likely heading to work in Carlsbad where the Gemological institute is located, just a few miles from my home. :(

I'm sure someone tried to prevent him from driving, or would have. Maybe his buddies fell asleep and he took off, seen it plenty of times at my house. This is why I stopped inviting people over for party and drinks; they're too cheap or stupid to show up in an uber/Lyft. My wife and I enjoy drinking and always take an uber/Lyft to parties, concerts, vacationing etc... I've paid $200 roundtrip chino to staples center a couple of times, worth every penny.

I waited a few days to watch the video and wish I didn’t watch it. That was rough.

I was rear ended in March where the guy didn’t realize traffic was at a stop. If someone else is driving, I drive them crazy with telling them to brake, just take side streets, etc. If I can get home with side streets, I immediately get off the freeway. I also am noticing how many other people are distracted, weaving dangerously and speeding when there’s no point.

RIP Janet. I hope you were listening to your favorite song and just went to heaven.
