Spent the weekend plowing and cleaning roofs. Gaylord Airport with mountains of snow. The snow is setting on flat land. View attachment 1479832

Snowed over here on the lower east side of the UP. About a foot with winds, drifts, and good reason to stay inside. Very few snowmobiles but plows have been running for 2 days straight.

Temps below freezing for at least the next 7 days. Almost spring and winter has finally arrived.

One more day of snow and I will have to get my buddy with his loader back. Hope my customers are all making some good money off the snow. Puts me in the nut house, but that’s ok.

Woke up to this this morning. Around 3-4inches. I’ve blown my driveway 6 times so far this month. Probably need to do it again tomorrow. 🤷‍♂️

Think of all the exercise you're getting. 😁

Yes, I do enjoy that. I would enjoy a good game of basketball for some exercise in a warm gym better. But I signed an agreement after the snapped Achilles that I’m retired.

Wow, I completely forgot that even happened.

Thank god you don't live in Mammoth Lakes CA. When a storm rolls in, six times a day and you'd be way behind keeping up with the snowfall.

Felt very good about all of our work completed yesterday. Woke up this morning to a fresh foot of snow. Yikes, didn’t see that coming.

Glad to see winter is back in MI. Snowmobilers rejoice.
LOL, good friend bought a house up here 3 years ago. 1/4 mile driveway. He had 3 cars and a tractor stuck in it Sunday night. He called me yesterday and asked if this was a typical winter. He is a little exhausted by the snow. Good thing he is retired, he has plenty of time to keep his road open.

That picture reminds me of a picture from my great Grandfather’s pics. He was a commercial fisherman in the thumb. They would cut chunks of ice like that and fill up their ice house, then pack it with sawdust. I could not imagine how they drugged those monster peaces of ice around back in the day.

Did the guys from the West coast ever hear of using lake ice and storing it it for the summer? View attachment 1481203

My friend that has a family camp in Upper Lake Saranac NY. His property care takers cut the ice in the winter and put it in the unrefrigerated ice house that was built in the 30s?

Every morning he pulls a block and chips it into to coolers for use that day. All cocktails are made with lake ice when we are there.

Love those old traditions!

I don't know if there is anything still standing in the Thumb. Everyone has passed away and the rest of the family moved to Charlevoix years ago. My Great Grandfather lost his leg in a fishing accident as a young man. His peg leg is in the Fishing museum down there. There is some useless trivia for you. Could not imagine doing all that work on a peg leg. The real tough guys from back in the day.

When I get back it gets sanded and wrapped. I have two of them that I'm building for the sons of a couple of my friends.

Well, I warned people to clear their snow off. 2 garages down , one car port and my buddy Tom who parked under his edge of his roof.

Local diver worked with the History Channel on this. You need to watch it thru the History Channel App.

There was a lady skiing today with a child on her back. Do you find that a little crazy?

My first thought was the chairlift. It would squish the child when you sat on the chair.

Hey Bob,
We're doing Boyne thunder again this year. do you know anyone renting a house lakeside with a dock? We got pushed out to Summerset Marina last year, which was not bad at all, just looking for something different? Would be a perk to find a house with a dock out front. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Any other RDP'ers going???

This was us:

Wasn’t able to load the video. This is my son Andy doing the slush cup at Boyne Mountain today. He was one of the few who made it all the way thru.

Got out of town for a couple days. Felt good. Mrs Nature slammed us with hi winds and an ice storm. Trees and power lines down all over the place on the way home. A Camero spun out in front of us and ended up in the ditch. Most of the places with out power along the way. Ok, I have a lot of stuff to do outside. It can start acting like spring.

Had to go pick up one of my 85 year old customers on Tuesday. Sun was out, creepy but pretty. That was the first time I drove out of town. Story on the street is they have replaced 900 telephone poles from the storm. Old timers have all agreed they have never seen anything like it. Just amazing what the floods and fires have done this past year. Mother Nature is an unbelievable force.

People still without power after 12 days. This morning it was 18 degrees. Hopefully by the end of the week everyone will have power. Crazy week.
