Is debris in the lifter valley from the cam? I see a missing valve but the debris in the valley seems to be the predecessor to the flange of the valve departing the stem.

The volume looks to be quite a bit more. I was wondering where that came from? Maybe the rocker arm assembly. 🤷‍♂️

EDIT looking at it again it is in the lifter valley. What is that material?

I’m thinking that’s part of where some of the missing piston went.🙁

Maybe I'm missing something, but how did that much aluminum end up in the valley? When I've blown chunks, I've had reversion, where the first cylinder migrated into the plenum, and met other pistons. Aside from that, the pan turned into stripper glitter, and small particular in the heads and valley, but nothing that big.

Only thing I was thinking is pulverized piston pieces at higher RPM being thrown up into the cam and oil drain's. 🤷‍♂️

It's the piston head.

Yep, seems like they’re missing part of the market that could be good for them, I would’ve thought they had something similar to a MerCruiser replacement, but that was the smallest marine big block they had.

Boy oh boy do I know your pain. Two seasons in a row for me with a dead boat out of the gate. I chose the wrong builder to refresh my engine. Right during Covid too. This precipitated buying my Hallett. I now know that you must have two boats.

That's the piston head and part of the valve , lost power coming in motor shut off. White smoke when lifting hatch tried to start no oil pressure so I stopped, motor had oil in it but saw oil in bilge....
How many hours were on that engine? Curious if new valves were put in those heads or just reconditioned.

That missing exhaust valve might have a little something to do with it. 🤷‍♂️
That’s a lot of debris that would have had to push through port in the head then some how get through the head to intake mating point. NFW all that metal wound up there from the bottom end unless the lifter valley of the block windowed. I highly doubt the rotating assembly would have tossed that amount of debris through a window in the lifter valley. Just seems odd to me.

Here’s my comment from post 18, I made an observation from some limited pictures that we’re looking at if you have a better idea have at it. I just offered my opinion.

I’ve always found it amazing what mechanical devices can do to themselves during catastrophic failures.

Maybe 40-60 the heads were completely redone and new valves, springs, roller rockers, custom pistons etc.

I'm going to find out next week when it's completely disassembled and I will update thread.
