My water heater is percolating and rumbling, is it living on borrowed time?

I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow….
Doing the same. Picked up a Bradford White couple days ago and iinstalliing tomorrow. Miine has been rumbling for a while now as well as seems like there must be calcium build up so where in thank due to hot water pressure has dropped. Got 15 years out of it and never drained or service it.

City water or Well?

Mineral build up from well water can sound like gravel at a full boil

Would probably look to replace ASAP as they are expected to go up in price by 20%, according to a plumbing warehouse I talked to. I just did mine since it burst and it's a big one. $2950 installed.
damn almost 3 grand!!! I picked up a new 50 gallon bradford for 855 from Ferguson never did one but seems like plug and play.

What's the date on it, and if it's not that old flush it.
And if it's a straight replacement like for like, they are easy.

Who pays for that shit.

$3k for a hot water heater and install? What the hell did you buy? And what the hell did they charge for labor? They only take an hour at most to install maybe an hour and a half if you run the blow off outside..

75 gallon

Took longer than an hour and he disposed of the old one. I guess I need to learn to shop around!! We pass quite a bit of work back and forth with each other so I didn't question it. I paid him $2450 and he hasn't asked for the other $500 so......🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

That is a good price for a 75.
Missing the sediment trap and cold to hot bond wire. But that is only for inspection. Never seen anything in a trap and most houses are pex these days so bond wire doesn't do shit.

Tons of 15-20 year old water heaters still kicking without a single flush.
I had one, American Standard last over 22 years! Now all we got is cheap shit made from China. I for one am hoping Trump can bring AMERICAN MADE BACK!!

My wife was Indiana, a few months ago, visiting her mother and the elec. water heater took a shit. Almost 8K, but they hauled the old one off. ;) I just shook my head.

Nice work but purculating 50 gallons of coffee seems a bit much. 😁

Bradford White like others have said is a quality unit. Water Heaters used to be inexpensive. That is simply not the case any longer. AO Smith also good quality.

Low NoX and the flame is sealed. Its like starting a BBQ now.

Expect to be around $1000 bucks OTD on a gas 50 gal unit. If your strong enough to remove the old, they are not hard to replace. You will save a bag of money diy.

Actually, most water heaters for the US market are made here or in Mexico.

My river house water heater was replaced in 2020, started popped and gurgling in 2021 lol. Shitty needles water. I did flush it recently, helped it a little bit, tons of shit came out of it.

How would a tankless work with shitty desert water?

Also, when I leave during the winter , I shut off the water and turn the gas to vacation mode so I don't have to relight the pilot so its not boiling the tank dry. Does vacation mode still heat the water?

I don’t see a smitty pan - that’s why he cut you the $500 discount.

No more rumbling. Pretty simple. Hardest part is getting the old out and new one in. Made a ramp with a 2x12 and walked the tank down the ramp then new up the ramp.

If anyone needs a hot water heater replaced in North County San Diego, I have a great plumber that is super knowledgeable, reliable, and an all around good guy. He's done all my plumbing and if very affordable. He just did my hot water heater for $1700 complete...50 gallon, not Home Depot. Installed the expansion tank and replaced all lines.

Some here will recall Froggy and his pet peeves in the English language. Here’s mine - Hot Water Heater. If the water is Hot you don’t have to Heat it. Therefore, it’s just a Water Heater. Good to see, HWH was only used once in this thread.

That’s a pretty good deal. I’m headed to Ferguson to buy one now but just the tank will probably cost me 1000

Ferguson will have sales on the BW tanks including all new supply lines everything you need. I waited for a sale and picked up a insulated 50 gallon for 800.

My friends has been making noise since he moved into his house. He has owned that house for probably 8 years now. It's outside by near his garage and outdoor firepit. It's so loud it's actually annoying when you are outside. He has been waiting for it to die but it keeps on going. So I know they can last a while after they start making noises. He is guessing with all the noise it makes it's probably half full of sediment.

This was the last one I did solo, At moms In Topock. The thing was seeping water through the skin. 20 years on a 6 year water heater.

I think he said mine was $1041 plus all the hardware. I'm pretty sure he went to Ferguson too.

I got a Bradford white 50 gal and 2 hoses. After my buddies discount I was at around 950. He installed it for 1 IOU which I thought was more than fair.
