I know. Vin shopped at Billabong. However all the Authentic Brands Group bs has me looking for other options. Like many, Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom comprise the majority of my wardrobe. So what’s a guy to do? Even the Reef website feels like ABG now? Looking for lesser know alternatives, not Florence or Outerknown. Those two don’t need my cash.

Why pay money to advertise for someone else? Hanes T-shirts come in 4 packs for like $12 (Edit:...seems to be about $20 now) and work just as good. If someone wants me to wear their logo...they can pay me or give me the shirt for free

You think yore being funny, but that’s actually not a bad thought. Why not start my own brand. I know what I like. Shit. Can’t get anything from chyna anymore. Oh well. Back to my topic.

This is my general wardrobe, but, I ain't impressing anyone...not exactly the leading man type these days. Most of my clothes run the risk of horrible deaths though, burns, stains or the insta-kill...gear oil. So, it depends on what you do everyday I think. I'd possibly have more name brand type stuff, if I knew the chance of them becoming rags quickly wasn't always there.

Rip Curl shirts are not as good as they use to be, seriously, Salt Life is pretty decent.
Mojito and Bohio are a step above but may not be available in the states.
Carrhart for around the yard.

T-shirts, You pay them so that you can advertise their stuff, A promotional shirt is any piece of clothing that carries a company's logo, message, or branding, walking billboards. The primary goal is to increase brand visibility. Think of as “status, Clothing brands use you as free advertisement always have always will, t-shirts are indeed considered a powerful form of advertising. Wearing a logo is free advertising for that particular company or organization.
Who doesn’t like getting a free T-shirt?

You got a link for the 4 for $12 ones? I'm paying double that.

I buy and wear Gildan long sleeve shirts from Amazon. Shirts I wear that have a design are band T shirts. I am currently wearing a Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell shirt.

Might be more now, But its still cheap. I haven't bought them in years....that would spoil my Christmas presents. I count on getting at least 4 4-packs of shirts and a few packs of socks....the wife never disappoints lol.

That said, shirts don't last long before they're "unacceptable to go out in" for me. White shirts last about an hour before they're hopelessly stained, even my black shirts have spots on them, not sure how I do that but I do...one of my many talents

Shorts - whatever Ross Has, usually quicksilver, Hurley, etc. I wear a lot of the golf shorts style shorts.

Shirts - always boating event, boat builder, destination (places we’ve been or like to go) or car stuff like Dayton wire wheels, Hoppos, car shows etc. I don’t wear a shirt that just advertises some rando company. There’s usually a meaning behind it for me. I do own about 25 cigarette shirts though. lol

Pants - Levi’s or outer unknown.

Shoes - vans or sketchers but 75% of the time - sandals.

I was digging around the other day and found a Large shirt I bought at the Long Beach races (white..lol) still in the bag. I opened it up, held over me to prove that it was clearly too small, and threw it to the kid.....he holds it out in front of me to show me and bitched at me for getting dirty handprints on it. I'd literally just washed my hands with dawn dishsoap. I don't get it.

I grew up wearing Birdwell, Katin, and Hang ten.
Nice! I really like their board shorts..great for surfing and everything else. I’ve got one of their jackets too. The fact that there stuff is made in the U.S.A. is a big plus.

Absolutely. I've said many times that I wish I owned a company that people wanted to advertise for free.

I feel the same way about events like car shows or boat stuff. Unless there's some documented benefit for charity or something, if they want my boat or hot rods there, they're going to be paying me to get them there.

You can get shirts printed with whatever you want on 'em....$25 each or so (haven't made any for a year or 2)....

I had this made during covid....

Fuck Birdwell.

Dad wore them in the 60s mostly at the river mainly because of their great warranty. Through the years I've worn them, still have 2 sets of trunks at the river house. Once they closed their place in Santa Ana and moved wherever the fuck they moved to, their product went down the shitter. My Youngest daughters best friend worked for them for years. When she heard they were shutting down, or selling, or only having an online presence, she told me to buy now before they they closed. She was right. No more life time warranty.

About 8 years ago saw that Hang Ten was back in biz. Bought 2 shirts, threw them in the was and they fell apart. Recently saw that they offer just a plain Tee with the feet on the front, might give them another try. Knew a guy in high school that his only tattoo was the hang ten feet on his chest right where they were on the shirts. He was also a drag boat driver.

We moved to Australia in the 60's before dad got into the boat biz in '66. Didn't work out and we were home in 5 months. It was there that I learned what a Billabong was. Walking from the road to the ocean we had to cross over a narrow foot bridge. It was pretty long as it spanned a backwater area between the ocean and the road. It was where the crocodiles lived, the Billabong. Fuck that.

It was also then I learned what the Men in the Gray Suits meant. To this day I can remember surfing, or trying to, with dad and we heard this church bell ringing from the beach. Everyone ran out of the water. Then the lifeguards paddled out on longboards, there were no short boards yet, and they had these long 2 inch round dowels, for lack of a better word. They'd paddle out and tap the great whites on their backs with these long dowels and chase them out of the harbor. They'd ring the bell again and everyone would go back in the water. I could still their fins past the break. Fuck that too.

Everything in Australia wants to kill you. I have ZERO desire to go there.

Quiksilver out of nostalgia despite whatever New York conglomerate owns them. A couple 4 packs of the plain black and white cool tees from Costco (and a handle of something). And whatever I’m proud of or interested in. Thankfully don’t need my Let’s Go Brandon tees anymore
