Just a normal occurance here in SD, this one for some reason made the news. Sad because they don't fully understand the risk of the boats and only think of when they hit land.

I wonder how far south they are launching these pangas? Not like TJ has a boat ramp.

Beach launch. Lots of pangas sitting on the beach ready to go. You don't need to go very far past the fence.

This happens a few times a week. Never in the news.

They travel in the dark. Hard to believe they don't get stopped. They have motors. Heat detection stuff in a helicopter? They can't track this?

I couldn't get in the surf on a jetski and get busted
That was 30 years ago

Mike Slater of Breitbart mentioned this morning that the SEALS can’t go in the San Diego/Coronado water anymore because the bacteria levels are at unsafe levels now thanks to the raw Mexican sewage they dump untreated right into the ocean.

Doesn't our military watch the waters and know what's coming into America?

I thought it would be pretty easy to target a panga leaving Mexico with many bodies aboard.

We should have Police, Military or Coast Guard at the beach to welcome the mudda fuckas when they arrive and ship their ass back on down south!

Good. We need more of this. I have no sympathy whatsoever for ANY of these people. Fuck them. Every one of these boats should be strafed and sunk the minute they cross into US Federal Waters.

Agree 100%
And I'll echo what @island time said . . . . If I get tight to the beach fishing bass in my little Boston Whaler, within minutes here comes Haselhoff down the sand lights and sirens with his bulhorn & short-shorts telling me to get off the beach and move out one half mile.

Also , regarding all the new MPA's, (Marine Protected Areas) . . . . I find it interesting that out of nowhere a DFW boat with Wardens on board will appear out of thin air, should you be fishing in a restricted zone waaaayyy on the backside of Catalina Island . . . but drug smiugglers & human traffickers can roll right into our waters like a McDonalds drive-through . . . . total BULLSHIT.

You can't tell me they don't, or can't , track these pangas before they even cross into our waters . . . I ain't buying ANY of it for a second.

Anyone remember that Coast Guard Cutter of the Channel Islands in 2012 , where one of the crew was shot and killed by a drug smuggler in a panga ??????

Save tax payer money on 'targets' , and use the pangas . . . . just save me the GPS #'s where the pangas are sunk so I can fish the spots later. ;)

Saw a Doc several years ago about Mexico waste water that flows directly into the U.S. Not the ocean but the actual ground. The flow was from huge drain pipes that flowed unhindered waste water. The U.S. was unable to address due to some treaty or agreement..

This is article is something different, likely what you're referring to..

See the link I put in Post #5.

The Executive Petty Officer, Senior Chief Terrell Horne, wasn't shot. He was struck by the panga's prop after the it rammed the Cutter Halibut's small boat. Chief Horne was struck as he pushed the Coxswain out of harms way. The Halibut is ported out of Marina Del Rey.

These smuggling boats usually head out, going around South Coronado Island, and lurking beyond the Channel Islands, waiting for the signal from their contacts on shore to advise when and where the good guys are. If they're off of Long Beach, they'll send them up to Ventura or further north. If they're patrolling off North Counties, they'll send them into Orange County.

It's impractical and impossible to have enough assets underway to picket the entire coastline, 24/7. Most of the time, it's reactionary to where and when they're spotted. Even as far back as the mid '80s, when I was on an 82' Cutter out of San Diego, we (Eleventh Coast Guard District) tried to have one Cutter underway off the Coast at all times, but even then we couldn't cover everything. We had a total of eight 82' Cutters, between San Diego and Santa Barbara. When we weren't cruising between Point Conception and the Mexican Border, we were cruising back and forth along the border from San Diego out to Cortez Bank stopping everything. At that time we were concentrated on drug interdiction, but brought in our share of human smugglers.

Do you think they are coming out of La Salina? I can't see many places to get a panga with 18 people onboard launched from the beach north of ensenada.

In the early 2000s when we fished south of the border we always got scoped out by the DHS/CG helis and the Midnight Express fast boats when coming up the hill.

Last time I was at Mission Bay launch the CG was tied up in one of their "pontoon" launches replete with a 50cal rifle and a bow gun , they were checking incoming boats re entering the bay , cant imagine they are not patrolling for this riff raff too

@BoatCop . . . My bad, I thought I remembered him being shot.
Either way, one Coast Guard Officer dead courtesy of a drug smuggler.

I'm still not buying the 'we don't have the resources' argument . . . maybe 'we don't have the funding' might be more accurate. (Tomato- Tomoto).
Plenty of advancement in technology since the mid 80's that doesn't require as much 'man power' IE satellites, better radar etc.

As much as I hate conspiracies and all that goes with it . . . I'd say at the very least, someone or some 'entity' is getting some type of compensation in some way shape or form to 'not' provide the resources or budgets to stop this mess. It just makes zero sense.

One experience I had just a few summers ago was enlightening. Not really related, but interesting.
A buddy and I were chasing bluefin between the West end of Catalina and Santa Barbara Island in our 18' Whaler.
We came up on some type of drone that was floating . . . it was approx. 15 feet long and didn't look super sophisticated, but wasn't a home made job either.
I called it into the Coast Guard on 16 . . . they had me switch channels where I gave a description and the Lat / Lon #'s.
I asked if it was ok to leave or if they wanted us to stay there . . . they said it was ok to leave.
We got situated, maybe ate a sandwich or something, decided what our next move was . . . and got underway.
I shit you not, I hadn't had the boat up on plane for more than a minute or so, and I look on the horizon and see a helicopter blazing right at us coming from shore.
I have no idea how fast is was going, but it was seriously scootin . . . . . we waived as they blew over us and that was that.

I was very impressed how fast they got there from Cabrillo.

The water near there has been on the news since I was a kid. I'm 56 now.
I believe people have made a living and some a fortune with this continuous sewage flow.
SD politicians have their entire agenda around this. If it stops flowing then what..

Cabrillo? They've been flying out of Naval Air Station Pt. Hueneme, since the Station at LAX was closed in 2016. (Damn. I lost my free parking at LAX) However, last year they commissioned USCG Air Station Ventura, as a tenant Command at the NAS. The only two air stations in Southern California are San Diego and Ventura.

Here's an approx. track we were taking after we called the drone in.
I assumed they were coming from Cabrillo since the helicopter was coming at us head-on , and certainly not from our port side or aft of us a-la Hueneme / Ventura.
Maybe they just happened to be in the area. 🤷‍♂️

If you can make it to the US, and turn yourself in, you get a free plane ticket home, and $1000. What could go wrong? 🤣

I think that only applies to current users of the CPB "Home Again" App, which was Biden's "get into the country free" App to let them apply for asylum before they even hit the border. People getting across the border now are being immediately returned.

The Yotes are paying off the BP and CG to get thru. Similar to inmates having cell phones and unlimited drugs while incarcerated. Money turns heads the other way.
This is the most ignorant thing I've ever read.

I personally know a Coyote. He pays for passage. I can ask later when I go to my house in the hood what it currently costs. Lasts time I asked it was 15k a pop.

Another good friend is currently incarcerated. Last time he got released he went straight to rehab. He had a cellphone and was regularly on FB. Told me he was more fucked up on drugs inside than he was while out. As that's all he did.

My first house in Riverside was "on the edge of ugly". Nice houses on one side, from the 80's, but ghetto 60's the other way. A young high school kid would come around, I'd weld stuff up he'd broken, or help him with changing a dirt bike tire. Nice kid, his mom was an elementary teacher, older brother was getting ready to leave, Mexico City on his "mission" and a little sister was picture perfect country girl 10yo. After some months had gone by, I finally asked neighbor-boy where his father was. I had figured he'd past away, as there were pictures of him somewhat recent in the house, and mom seemed a pretty devote Mormon, raising her kids the same.

He was in jail. White guy, fluent Spanish speaker and a but of a hustler. He was a Coyote! In the movies and on TV, always saw them as tatted up bangers. He was released not long before we sold the house. Honestly, really nice guy. He was appreciative I'd helped his boys out with car stuff while he was gone. Really weird. He was probably in his early 50's at the time.

His cousin recently moved out of my other house. I was telling the Guys what the fuck. He didn't pay the electric bill. They were like nobody fucks Gabino. I said I don't give a fuck tell that fucker to give me the money. Turns out his family is in the Cartel and none of my Guys want to hit him up for me.

In roofing, had no cartel peeps...they made enough money to not mess around. Low level dealers, drunks and general lowlifes?? Yep, had them in spades 🤣

According to my old neighbors there professional Drinkers. Every now and again I will get stuck there drinking Modelos planning out work with the lead Guys that run the crews. Liquor store that was in Friday is my neighbor and they will go like Every hour for another case. I have to make a excuse to leave or I will be stuck sleeping on my old couch as I wouldn't be able to drive.

Funny some of the old neighbors that hated me 10 years ago hang there drinking with them. I stopped by on Cinco de mayo and the 1 was giving me hell for having to leave and not drink. This fucker was my old enemy over parking now wanted to hang out. He had his gun sitting on his lap when he was telling me I couldn't leave. I was thinking I hope this drunk piinche f*cker don't shoot me for not drinking more beer Lol.

don't gas light us into thinking they were not breaking the law...
Insufficient PFD’s
no noise making device
no currently registered
no nav-light
no throwable
no engine lanyard
exceeding capacity
but to top it all off, no muscle sticker.

Lock em up and throw away the key.

Not related, but maybe a little 'parallel' . . . .

I was talking with a Fish & Wildlife Warden a while back at the beach.
I was asking him about the legalities of some closures, estuaries, and 'grey areas' for legally / illegaly fishing.
He was really cool and straight forward . . . but he also said that most of the time , he won't site 'certain people' people for fishing in 'no-go zones, simply because of their inability, or refusal to pay a citation. Specifically illegals.
But he also said , "I would definetly site you becasue I know you'll pay the fine".
He even went on to say that his boss gets mad when they write tickets to those type of people because of the amount of bad paperwork that piles up and doesn't go away, making his department look bad to the higher-ups.

So if that type of BS is going on at the chicken-shit vs chicken-salad level for 'fishing tickets' . . . you can't tell me there's not serious corruption taking place with drug smugglers and human trafficking.

I know some, too. Most of them are STILL in prison. I also know that people, including Correcctions Officers, smuggle contraband into jails. Hell, we even had a female DO at our jail who was fucking an inmate in the control tower.

But to imply that they're paying off Coast Guard officers is Offensive, not only to those who have worn the uniform, but even more so to those of us who actually went in harm's way to stop them coming into the country. That's just fucking wrong! Has it happened? It's possible.

There have been numerous Border Patrol agents charged with accepting bribes over the years, with the majority of these, being close friends or family with cartel operatives, and some actual cartel members joining (infiltrating) the Border Patrol/ICE to aid in human and drug trafficking. You can find reports of these all over the internet.

But I'll defy you to find any articles or reports of US Coast Guard Personnel accepting bribes or any other favors for assisting drug and human smuggling. I'm not saying that is has NEVER happened, but you make it sound like it's routine.

It's not luck that gets the Pangas through or the vehicles loaded with immigrants. It's money. That load had 18. Figure 15 that are paying so $225K. The Coyotes are not putting that in there pocket. Figure 6 involved 20k each 5k for stolen panga. Leaves 100k to get it through.

Not trying to offend any Coasties or BP as I know quite a few. And it's definitely not a majority of them. It's probably in the 1-3% range if that. And I would wager most didn't plan on taking a bribe either. Probably were told to or else.

You don’t think there are lower and upper level GC getting paid to relay their own or other ship locations in one way or another? Seems even easier and less riskythan working with border patrol agents to get people through checkpoints.
I’m curious how the Coast Guard and Navy monitor electronics activity and communication by sailers including GPS on their ships if you know.
