So got home tonight and finished dinner then sat down to enjoy a little bit of the old boob tube. My 10-year-old Vizio TV decided she don't want to work anymore. Time to go TV shopping, so what's the latest and greatest? With the all the acronyms now I can't make sense of it all. Only requirement is it's in an Alcove that the frame bezel to bezel cannot be any bigger than 65 in wide.

What say you?

Just buy one big enough to cover the alcove and you'll never miss it cuz you'll mesmerized by whats on it....haha
We've bought several Samsungs through the ages and have always been happy with them.
Walmart typically has pretty good pricing on them if you don't mind shopping with the gross ass pajama wearing ebt crowd.😅🤣😂

QLED with matte finish for brighter rooms
OLED for darker rooms.

120hz refresh rate.

We’re partial to Samsung—have had good longevity with them. We do have a TCL that looks nicer than the Vizio we have. Could be due to age IDK

Crazy how small a 50" tv feels/appears to us all these days.😁
I tend to stick to Vizios, have at least 4 that are 10+yrs old, the oldest(75") I recently strapped to the roofracks and moved it 300 miles east. Replaced it only cuz it no longer was capable of updating some streaming apps.
Everyone has their favorites but I'm just not that much of a tv picture snob to truly notice a huge difference.

That's me too. But figured since I have to do the upgrade anyway might as well get something that's pointed in the new technology Direction rather than outdated. Our Vizio lasted us approximately 10 years too.

Yep.

Having blacks actually be black (and not dark grey) is great for watching a movie at night. 👍🏼

Sony is more expensive due to their upscaling technology. They will make even old movies look great. Huge plus that no other TV can match.

We have two Sony Bravia OLED TV's here. Love em.

Again--its about the refresh rate.
The TV in the store is always playing a demo screen with bright colors or pictures of birds.
But the real test is putting on a football game (either American or European) and watch the ball or player movement.
We just watched a hockey game at a friends home. Big TV like 96" but with a 60htz refresh. Puck moved so fast it would just kinda jump across the screen. With at least a 120htz refresh--the puck will move seamlessly.

Or in boating terms. Its like having a 41' DCB with just a single small block.
Looks and performs well in the channel with the rest of the boats--but on open water its just no good.

ended up with a Sony Brava mini LED. Definitely has a better picture than our old Vizio but not as good as the OLED. Would have got the OLED but they don't make them in a 75 that anybody had in stock they were all 77 in which was an inch and a half to wide bezel the bezel. I did not want to go down in size from a 71 inch TV to a 65 so we got the largest one that would fit for the space. Thanks everybody for the opinions and the advice.
