I'd probably just make more stupid choices 🤣

So, most everyone would see some pile of junk, sitting in a yard, surrounded by weeds...and more junk. I see something different. Like an old Ford in a field, it has potential. This isn't just an old hay hauler, some rig to haul bushels to the silos. No sir, this was the one that made it first up the hill...and made a sound like no other. A big V8, 12.1 liters of coal rolling magnificence. They'd make 1200ft-lb of torque at 1200rpm, and 500hp at about 2000rpm. You shift them like a cross between a John Deere and Muncie...it's redneck sexy. You like blowers? It has one. You like turbos? It has one of them too, a big one. Of course, all this coolness comes at a cost...she may use a tad more fuel. No EGR coolers, DEF systems or pesky electric anything. Oh, and for those uninitiated into this type of lunacy...she's a two stroke;)

She'd make a fine service truck though😍

I don’t know she’s a bit rough for $3500, but probably wouldn’t take much to make it run, assuming it hasn’t been cannibalized. It’s a sickness like people who come home with every stray dog and cat they find.🤣

Well, this one looks a bit more rough, but cheaper. Nowhere near the same sound with a stock motor, but a late model out of a diesel pusher wreck and you'd have probably one of the most well known styles...

Never even related my sickness to the dog and cat people. But now that I think about it, you’re probably 100% right.

Been trying to rehab myself but it’s a slow process with occasional relapses. lol…

I have absolutely ZERO need or use for a Peterbilt. Period. But man, I'd love to find one like a 359 with a long hood and a small cab-height sleeper. I'd stretch the frame and drop it as low as I could. Just because. ❤️

I'd love to have a Needle Nose Pete with a twin turbo 8V92 and twin sticks. I'd also love to have an El Camino powered by a Big Block Chevy with an 8-71 blower setup Bullhead City style with big tires in the back, skinny's up front, side pipes, and decked out with O'Reilly's bolt on crap.

Yure in luck! I have a 379 as described and would sell it.
It's one of those things that I wouldn't have a use for, as much as I'd like to have one. But thank you for the offer! Like others said, post up some pics. 👍

The ol 8V92….. Brings back memories of the fleet of those things that grandpa had when I was younger. There was a short WB as well that had a 6V92 in it if I remember correctly. Grandpa would always say “there’s only one way to drive these things…. You slam your finger in the door to piss you off, then drive the truck like you stole it!”… I have FAR too many miles behind the wheel of those things!

It truly is, seems I want to purchase every old square body that I see and/or old Toyota Land cruisers. I just don’t have the time space or money.🤣

3-4mpg...maybe?
It's over 12 liters and a redline of 26-2700rpm (which sounds like shit's going to come apart) I don't think expansion chambers would help much. Not to mention, 8 into 1 into a turbo may not be a great idea 🤣

So, when you installing the pump? Needs a stubby little motor...a SCAT V4 with a 4/71 maybe?

Well, I've been kind of looking around for a beat to hell El Camino, of any flavor, for my son. Somehow they've gone the way of Fox Body Mustangs and old Toyota's...stupid expensive for shit boxes.
That Needlenose dump for 2500 is way more reasonable 🤣

I've had 460's...some healthy ones too. Pretty damn sure not a single one of them was making over a thousand ft-lb at a thousand rpm. Not one of them lasted half a million miles either 🤣

Well hell...

Any engine Should last with that much fuel AND oil going through it! 😁

Do you have to premix? Or are they injected? (Serious question)

No premix. 2 stroke because it fires every downward stroke. It has intake ports and exhaust valves. The engines have a scavenger pump to blow out the combustion gases.

So it's a "pressurized" scavenger pump...

😁
I "think", more like a reed valve concept...the exhaust manifolds go straight into the turbo, compressor side of turbo right into the blower.
None of it really ever made sense to me, but damn they sound cool!

I am with you backlash. I am thinking that I will buy 82daytona’s rig, commission @monkeyswrench on the build and use the bad ass truck to launch a Schiata mini boat that I will now need to buy as well. Looks like I will have to reconsider storage space. 🤪 Anyone willing to tell my wife of this plan? @Jefftowz

Going about this all wrong...don't use it to tow a mini Schiada...pack a full size one on a sliding roll back, to keep the truck pretty dry. Then, pack two mini's above, on an articulated rack...that can also get them in the water, keeping the polished rims nice.

Now, to sell this, not hard at all. You see, instead of a truck and three trailers, this only takes up one RV spot. You also won't have to pay for registration or maintenance on the three trailers...and you'll already have to pay for those for any launch vehicle. On top of it all, even with three boats, ready to go, you'd still have an open hitch.

I'm telling you, nowhere near as hard a sell as you'd think 🤣

No need for cameras going to invite you over to be there in person. Sounds like you everything handled. Just need your pricing. 😆

I
You need one for the Cigarette. Keep the Chevy and build your Pete to tow the boat. 🤘

View attachment 1506289

I would absolutely LOVE to have a slammed and stretched Pete. Waaaaaay overkill to tow the cig but I’m retiring next year and considered buying one to drive part time just to play around with.

When we’re on the road to the lake or wherever I even got the kids pointing out bad ass rigs 😂

In 1979 I took my class 1 test ( Class A and CDL weren't a thing yet) in a 1956 Pete 350 Cummins, 10 speed Fuller Trans. We left dmv, turned right onto Spring St. As we went across the RR tracks the instructor started screaming like a little bitch!. 😳 When I looked over to see what this dudes problem was, I saw the passenger door swung open. This freaking wuss made me stop the truck and bailed out claiming the truck was unsafe, failing me and he walked the 3/4 mile back to dmv.

It was the longest 14 days of my life until I was eligible to retest. This time taking a different truck out of the Hill Crane yard. A 1957 Pete with a 220 Cummins and a twin stick 5 over 4. I was nervous to get the same instructor. When I walked into the office he saw me..and clocked out for his lunch! Crisis avoided !

The new instructor was way nicer and not scared or the truck. We pre tripped (he checked brake lights), he climbed into the truck and searched for a seat belt. ( too old , not required) I reached past him and checked his door to make sure it was closed. The dude busted into tears he was laughing so hard. When he caught his breath he said " That was YOU?!?!?!" He then told me if I can take him around the block without hitting anything I would pass.!!

Needles to say. Everytime I see an old Pete I'm smiling ear to ear!

It's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Coming around the corner with a new toy and the wife is in the front yard and you can see her say What the Fuck before you even get in the driveway, priceless.

How about driving to the river with her and the kids, only to pull into a random storage yard to hitch up a new boat and trailer that she knew nothing about. 🤣👍

Cough cough cough........

I spent 10 years driving a 1977 Pete 359 with a 500 hp 8v92 with a 13 speed,it was a transfer or truck and pup
Bought it used in 1989 my first truck and first class A driving job because I was too young to get hired on anyplace but they put me out as a sub hauler
About 3 miles per gallon was the best it could do and Jake Brakes on those motors did not work well but better than nothing
I don’t miss those old trucks at all loud ,hot under powered and weak Jake’s
The cat 3406 a and b kicked my ass up and down hill and the Cummins anything 350 hp or bigger did the same
Yes they sounded good
My new trucks X15 Cummins 565 hr 1850 torque 18 speed automated trans with a Newway air ride rear suspension with 9 inches of travel that’s at least 2 times more than my old spring ride on my old truck I have no desire to ever drive the old

Neighbor had a 1980ish FLT with a 350 big cam. Miserable thing to drive, shortest wheelbase, 2 axle, buckboard, kidney killer. She sounded real good though! He sold it a year or so ago. If I would have had the coin, it would have been here. He sold it on Craigslist, got a whopping 2800$. I think it was headed to be a hay hauler either in Yuma or Mexico. Everything worked on it, but it was one step from being a yard goat.

The new stuff is amazing, runs great and huge power. Damn comfy too. What I don't like, a 2 wire sensor can shut down a 150k truck, cost 500$ and require a computer to tell you where to start looking. I wonder if the export motors have the same crap on them? It seems like most failures are due to emissions faults.

@monkeyswrench have you ever had one of those oil leaking Detroits apart? There’s more gears in the front of those things than any modern day overhead cam motor in existence! We would do 2 overhauls a year and every time that front cover came off, I’d swear it would never run again!!

Never owned one, and really, they weren't to common around socal as a kid. Busses, when I was really young, and then in fire trucks. Seemed the fire trucks had coolant issues.

As for gears, my first foray into clockwork fuckery was a 7.8 Duramax...the giant Izusu 6 cylinder. Ran out of room on the front I guess, and started hanging more on the back. No camera phone, and a lot of scribed marks and numbers.

No, lost all cool Bangshee sounds. More like a pisssed off bee! @JUSTWANNARACE is a homo, but his wife rode my junk, and once we got it sorted, we pissed off a LOT of people with that turbo shit bucket! From nitrous backfires in staging, to backfires at 270’ (lean) bending carb needles into a Z shapes, CUTTING the fuel enrichment solenoid wire on the nitrous because the velocity of the turbo pulled so much fuel, you name it, we did it. NOBODY believed it was stock everything…… great times we had! Again, he’s a homo, but having fun is something we’re good at! 🤣

Your right i hate the smog crap and all the unnecessary complexity the cam bus system saves on wiring but costs more to keep going in the long run
On my 2020 truck all switch’s talk with a computer before anything will work I have had to wire a separate system to be able to keep running
