Hope there's no insurance adjusters on this post. Y'all gettn phone calls.

LOL. in my case, the insurance company insisted on rating the boat at 120. It didn’t come cheap either. Don’t think I’ll ever see it but, nice to know I’m covered.

I’m new to this kind of boating. My boat was sold to me as a 60 mph boat. The fastest I’ve ever seen is 54. I’m not totally sure about how the trim should be set, but I can see it makes a difference. Should I be doing anything with the trim tabs? I’ve never had less than 1/2 tank. (90 gallon tank) Also, never ran it by myself. Would the weight of one person and some fuel make much difference?

Also, there seems to be opinions on whether you make a top speed run on glass or slight chop?

I’ve had my boat to 68 on gps. Could hit 70 with some prop work and a lightened load.

I have 2 cruise speeds 25 mph when it’s rough and music blaring. And 45 music blaring lol

ok maybe I am jaded bc ive been around fast boats for a while, but what is considered "fast" to the casual boater?

50? 60?

I remember my first boat a maxum with a 5.0 went 47 and I thought that was flying...

24’ deck boat with a 300 hp Merc and gen 2 Alpha. 4 blade 22 prop.
Light load in ideal conditions is 47 mph and it’s spinning at 5800 rpm so I think I can go to a 24 or possibly a 26 and still have enough power to pull it. That should put me a hair over 50.

I think it's surely relative to the person. 69 in my boat was the fastest I've been at the controls in my adult life. The fastest I've ever felt at the controls, was in Pops' old Bayliner Capri, doing around 35 up river. Not knowing the river like some guys, I felt like a fighter pilot, pushing the envelope, shooting through canyons 🤣

In spring with good air, a head wind in my face, and 6" of chop if I propped it up to a 26-28 I know the family boat would pull 80.

We were in Parker 2 weeks ago and it ran 73 all over the rev limiter with the 24 Deg.

In the dead of summer (100+*) with a boatload and ice chests the 24* gets it on plane fast and cruises good at 35.

my eyes are watering at about 60 so no need to go much past that.
That’s how I feel with my wife and kids in there. It’s plenty fast. Old boats like mine are so damn heavy you need a small fortune to make them go fast.

I don't know how fast my '67 Howard went. Probably 75ish. I never held it wide open for more than a mile or so, didn't want to hurt the 50 year old '63 427 low riser. I was confident in my rebuild, but I didn't buy the boat to go fast. The period correct restoration was my focus, and it turned out quite nice.

I had a 25 Eliminator Eagle XP with a 502 / Imco -2" lower unit, would consistently do 74MPH at sea level (salt water) lightly loaded. Fastest I have been in a boat was Howard Arneson's Mississippi Burning turbine power Skater back in 89. IIRC, the joy ride hit around 160? No helmets, goggles / sunglasses or anything to break the wind buffering, felt like 200MPH. This was at a Delta boat show. Sitting in the back seat adjacent the intake for the turbine was surreal, it was sucking in so much air it was hard to breath and the air hitting my face got under my eyelids and I couldn't see shit. A full face helmet would have made the experience much more enjoyable. The main thing I recall from that joy ride was how well behaved that hull was, big chop and washing machine waves had zero effect on it.

Howard A was a true gentleman too, wish I got to spend more time talking with him.

I didn't build mine for top speed. I built it for full loads at Powell so I can cruise all day at 60-62 without being in boost and get places in a reasonable time. That said, when I put the big prop on at Havasu in the winter running into a 1' chop toward Thompson bay I've seen 88-89, just not 90! I'm old now so I usually cut back when it hits about 80 and just hold it there.

Small write up of the boat Howard A gave me, my girlfriend and her brother a ride in along time ago in the Delta.

In 1990, Arneson built a 32-foot Skater with a 1,250 hp GE gas turbine to race 1,039 miles up the Mississippi River from New Orleans, Louisiana to St. Louis, Missouri. On September 20, 1990, at the tender age of 69, he won the race in 12 hours, 40 minutes and 50 seconds, eclipsing the previous record by seven and one-half hours, a truly amazing feat. Arneson drove and throttled the entire race by himself.

Zero to 63 mph dead stop start to top speed with in 75ft it's a Sprint racer. 13 ft long with a 350 small block Corvette motor. And can make 90% turns at that speed. That's with two people and full tank of gas ⛽

lol I don’t have a ton of seat time in it yet so still feeling it out. Hopefully this summer I’ll join the 100pmh club

YES.......take ur time and work up to it. You'll still have a few pucker moments as you learn what it can do and how to handle that beast.
I remember the first day I took my 28 Daytona out with twin 750's thinking I may have built the motors too much and by the end of summer I was looking for 2 more inches of throttle

One of my friends just got a 21 Schiada TT V-drive with a new GT motor. I won't be riding with him for at least a couple seasons.......wait....make that NEVER 🤣

Have fun
