As of today Drunk Danimal has been mia
Honestly I don’t miss it
I started this journey when I got home from Desert Storm last year
Never stopped drinking but sure have cut back
Sitting here at the beach now relaxing and sober

I'm an odd bird, in many ways. Decided I needed to not be drinking, so meant to slow down. Well, that slowed down to drinking my first beer in two years just a few weeks back. Then, had a few more this past Thursday.

At one point, I think I started just to numb myself. When I realized that's why I did it, it made it easier to work on changing what I'd been trying to numb. Some beer here and there ain't the devil they claim. A bottle or two a night, and whatever else finds it's way in front of you? It can start to take more than just the pain away. We all have our demons, and sometimes they fight for control.

After my divorce in 2010 I was good for near 18 per day 7 days a week.

I slowly got that down to 5-6 a day up until about 5yrs ago. Then it was 3 a day 3-4 days a week.

For about the last 6 months it’s been 3-4 once a month.

It’s great

It just comes with age. Congratulations Dan ! Think I Have had a dozen beers in the last year. I used to go to RD's house in Parker and loose count after twenty something. I feel much better and have lost some needed weight.

It’s been 18 years for me, before that I had a 7 year run. I simply woke up the second time and said I can’t do this anymore. I quit cold turkey, my son has been sober ten years. I’m 68 my son is 42 alcohol was not good for him or me for that matter, once I got over the hump I never looked back. Congratulations to all of you it makes you feel so much better and Congratulations Dan.

I lost my job on April 1 2007, my daughter was born on April 16th. While I didn't have a drinking problem I did have several beers a week. When she was born it was either beer or diapers and formula, I couldn't afford both so beer was cut. I cut it to a few a month. I can afford more now but just don't miss it or need it, I drink about 10 beers a year now.

3.5 Years here. Deciding factor was a crying newborn baby, no way in hell could I deal with that hungover! 😀 Glad I did now.

I tired to have an Ultra, 1 beer, in the pool at Maui last month. I drank half and I swear it made my stomach so upset, I was like F this!

I used to EASILY drink an 18 pack a day.

Congrats Fellas on all your hard work!

I don't know why, but I'm always surprised by how many people cannot operate with moderation. It's good for you all that can stop completely. That's not easy either, but I guess maybe it's easier than moderation?

You have to think of it in another way. It’s no different than someone who’s overweight or someone who cleans to much or can’t relax with dishes in the sink or tools not organized. Everyone has that one thing mine wasn’t necessarily the drinking but the drinking was tied to that thing so I chose to lose the drinking part.

It doesn’t always have to make sense to everyone.

Sept 12, 2022 for me. Sat in the Elks club bar yesterday for 2 hours and had a great time drinking NA Beer. Don't miss the hangovers, but I won't pass up ice cream.

Congrats Dan.

It interesting i had a couple NA Heineken and Corona NA while I was in Vegas and it actually taste better then the real stuff. I'm not really a fan of either in regular beer but that's all they had for NA. I was surprised that it wasn't bad. The wife even tasted mine and said the same thing.

I was never black out drunk or could not moderate. Most people over my lifetime have mentioned they cant really tell if I am buzzed or not. I never got to the Danimal level 😂 Whats your definition of moderation? I feel that can vary with everyone.

What concerned me was the frequency of when I felt that a beer was needed. Pretty eye opening. And some elevated liver lab results that made my mind up.

And lastly, I dont want my daughter to remember her Dad always having a beer in his hand. Just personal choices.

My health conscious buddy said that the beers made out of the country, like our food, have less additives and are better for you! Not the first time I have heard the Heineken NA get compliments! I have to try it soon.

Its been 7 months for me. I was diagnosed with AFIB and that was it for me being alcohol is a major contributing factor. I was only a beer guy but would put em back with the best of them. I now feel great and honestly do not miss it one bit. Lost a few lbs and my sleep is amazing. Nice to wake up early on a weekend and be clear headed.

On occasion I do miss the taste of an ice cold beer. Agreed the NA Heineken and NA Corona are really good and to me taste just like a normal beer. I have no plans of ever going back and with my heart issue it makes it even easier. More and more people I know have quit drinking and from this thread many more.

I've reached a point where I can take it or leave it.
I never was a huge drinker, too much alcoholism in my family tree.
I enjoy a cold beer after working hard outside every now and then, or when by the campfire out in the desert, but that is about it.
More than once I've asked Cindy to pick up a 12 pack only to drink one or two and have the rest go south in the shop fridge.
I've been working on the same bottle of Single Barrel for about 3 years now.

I'm thankful we have it. I've spent a few years living in Saudi....ever go to a music festival and everyone is just standing around? I've been to a few LOL...... booze has its place in society, there's a million reasons to not have it, but I'm glad we do.

I see there's someone else that needed convincing besides me.

😁

I gave up drinking in 1990, but in 2002 I decided I was wiser and more mature, so it was back on the treadmill. That lasted four years.

So next month I'll pass nineteen years sober, to add to the first twelve. Amazingly, I never had any, uh, interactions with law enforcement during my years of stupidity.

Moderation is for the majority. I tend to attempt over-achievement.

How many beers do you need to drink? All of them.

Great to hear, sometimes it takes a second go around and it sets in and sticks. Congratulations, I like you never got in any trouble but was on a path to never stop and I could have never helped my son.

2 1/2 years for Me and will never go back.
The straw for me was almost taking out a pack of E-Bikers w/ no lights on blowing through a 4-way stop sign.
I drive like a grandma and had stopped / looked both ways . . . but they came ripping by. Scared the crap out of me.
I was coming from my buddies house in the next tract over drinking a few foamers in his garage.
If I had taken them out I'd have been smoked . . . I wasn't hammered but def. over the legal limit.
It was time to call it.

I read that the average middle-aged white American male drinks 3-5 alcoholic drinks a day. Today I also learned that I'm above average💪
I blame it on customers. I can stop for a week or 2. And then have a customer not pay or change the scope at the worst time. So I would say business owners on average drink more.

I drank beer once in HS and that was it, never drank since. Yeah, I'm Mormon so that keeps me from the sauce but seriously I watch so many people, some close to me, just destroy their lives because the booze and they don't even see it. I guess everybody has their own type of poison though that keeps them from the life they COULD lead. Keep trying that moderation mantra and add in some attempts at general life improvement every now and then and I think we'll be alright.

You know how to stop a Mormon from drinking all the beer at your party?

Invite a second Mormon.

Addiction runs in my family. In my younger years I use to party quite a bit. In my older years moderation is the standard. I pretty much never really over do it. May drink 3-4 times a week, but those are moderated as well. Example: 1 beer then 1 water or one bourbon 1 water. If I drink 3 days in a row I will take 2 or 3 days off.

Seams to work for me. Never had an alcohol related incident. Will not drive if I have more than 2 which are never more than 1 per hour.

You never want to play golf with a Mormon. They will drink all your beer and smoke all your cigs. Heard from a friend
