I went down a rabbit hole on the mini schiada’s the other day and I have a question.

Are there any deck differences between the 10’ ones schiada built/rigged vs Lavey? I’ve seen a couple that have a different cockpit shape. Was the mold changed?

They are all the same mold. That white one is one I built. The other pic, doesn’t even look like a schiada, I guess if it is it’s been highly modified.

I've seen a lot of 10' Schiada's and own one myself, I've never seen one with the deck modified like your 2nd pic. As OD1 said, that had to be a modification by someone. If you found one for sale and thinking about buying it, just do it. They are so much fun.

I rebuild my red/white mini years back. Most are all the same.

Now.....I picked up another mini last year. Someone splashed the 10' and made this. It was super light and had an electric get motor in it. I don't remember much of the other info or history on it. Maybe someone else does? It's at the glass shop now getting completely rebuild. Jet hole filled. Transom beefed up. Deck Fixed. More glass to make her stout. New Stringers. I'm either going to throw a whacker on her or find a good waverunner motor/jet and let her rip!

The one with the deck mods is such a good deal it’d be dumb to pass up. Even if I have to pull it apart and do glass work, it’s small enough I feel comfortable doing the work.

Which mini did Lavey build that’s the same as the Schiada? As far as I knew the only mini they made was the Waterbug and it’s a completely different boat than the Schiada. The Lavey was more of a gullwing tri hull type bottom but the deck styling looks similar. Last time I saw Dave’s Waterbug was a 2-3 years ago I can’t remember the deck style on the inside of the cockpit.
The next biggest “mini” that Lavey built was a 16’ Sprite, which I own one of those and it’s a blast.

I read somewhere that there was so much demand that lavey was laying up schiada hulls

Schiada was selling them to rental boat companies in the Midwest. They’d crate and ship 2/3 a week. Lavey was contracted to lay them up, they came back to Schiada to be rigged and off they went.

There were about 300 made from what I understand.

I've also heard that a ton were shipped overseas when Lavey was laying them up like Paul said. I thought I heard Japan or something. Lots of stories, just wish we could find where all these mini's really are :)

Is that where the idea came from ?

I've always wondered what made Lee decide to lay up mini's

If memory serves, hasn’t RD built and rigged the baddest 12 footer ? I remember a Facebook post a few weeks about it but looks like Dave may have pulled the post from his fb..

Was it that blue and white one that was for sale on here? I was looking at that but I couldn't afford the $40k price tag.

RD didn't build it... he put it on a trailer as a basically bare hull. Marc Kaz built it and dumped a metric shit ton into it and sold it to Riverbound's mom. It's stupid!

That’s about right. Marc had the vision and spent the time getting it finished
