Ok, total novice here. If I delete in california, do i literally have to put everything back every 2 years for smog? just doesnt seem worth it to me...

what does the majority think? seems like a hassle, just curious what you all thought.

live in central california.

16 CC 4x4 3500 ram 6.7 HO Aisin transmission. 100% stock.

123,852 trouble free miles for what it’s worth. Every time I look at deleting it just sounds like too much of a headache.

To answer your question, yes. Unless you "know" someone that will look past that when the time comes. They are getting harder to find.

Curious, have you looked into banks stuff for a power adder? I know he doesn't make big power but his stuff is safe and pretty good quality and you don't have to worry about smog.

Please tell us what manufacture does not require a warranty?

Maybe you understand auto dealers and manufactureRS better than Joe:

Have you had a deleted vehicle before?

I have a 2020..have right at 15k miles on it without a hitch. Have driven it from Tx to havasu and back a few times now. Gets good enough mileage for me 16.5-18. I'm not going to void the warranty to get another mile or two out of it and to save a bit on DEF. Ive owned a deleted one (older), and a deleted diesel BMW.. I wouldn't do either again unless out of warranty. Half the tunes out there are crackpots with just a ton of sensors deleted. This truck is reliable and I intend to dump it at 100k anyway.

Why are you wanting to delete it? For the record I'm registered up north where no inspections are required. I would assume if you are in Cali you will be reinstalling stuff or paying a big ass fine when stopped.

Per your comment you said a Ram needs a warranty.

my question to you was what vehicle don’t?
I’m not arguing wether or not deleting voids the warranty.

Look into the penalties if you get caught without emissions equipment. Guy that built my transmission has a friend that got caught in Alpine and it cost about $30K to get the truck back. The tow bill, impound fees, daily penalty for no emissions equipment, and mobile emissions inspection before the truck can even start while in impound.

I have zero experience with deleted vehicles. More or less curious on what the brain trust thought. I had heard about fines and didn’t know how common it was. It’s my commuter and I avg about 19 which I’m happy with.

I just seem to see a bunch of guys with deleted trucks (chevys mostly of maybe that’s just me) and was curious at what lengths they go through to pass smog.

I definitely plan on meeting it stock and will look into banks power. I tow a 7000 pound travel trailer so nothing really crazy.

A lot of guys would have the truck registered in a County that doesn't require smog. A County West of Yuma is popular.

IDK honestly if you can even delete the 20's yet...I haven't researched it. When i did the bmw it was a bastard to get the parts and programing bc of crackdowns. The fines are getting more common and higher. The BMW was always registered to the havasu address so no smog/emissions check.

Idk which one you have but i have the 3500 with the HO/Aisin..dog off the line but will run after 1st gear and pull like a scalded ape. I normally would have considered it..but have no desire on this truck. My only gripe is fuel filter costs..and i'm going to chat with the dealer about aftermarket options before i go that route bc of warranty.

My truck is registered in Arizona. I haven't deleted....yet, but my truck doesn't get driven much so it's not a priority. I wouldn't do it unless you register outside of CA. The fuel mileage savings is much more than a mile or two. It's 30% maybe more. Much better for reliability of the truck. I did do my Duramax and it was well worth it when I drove it more.

In Ca they measure the exhaust plume as you’re getting on the freeway . And for the love of God , please don’t idle your truck in the drive- through ahead of me .

You looking for more power and louder truck?

Think Kory at PPEI is doing stuff for the 2020 Ram. Also look into these guys. Have ran their stuff in the past and been nothing but happy with them. No deletes, no loud truck, emissions friendly. You can run an intake and do a muffler back exhaust and one of theses tunes and be done.

Look into what lift pump is on the 2020. If it's a cp4 be careful!

Why in the hell would anyone own a diesel if they're not towing anything?

At one time it was a cost thing. I think it was a $3500 option for a 7.3 in 2000 and diesel was cheaper. Over the life of the truck there is fuel savings. Before 500 ppm diesel my F250 would get 20 mpg. On LSD fuel (500 ppm) it got 18 mpg. With ULSD it gets 13-14 mpg. I added a shell and it went to 16.5 mpg. Converted it to 4wd and gets 17.5 mpg. Non dpf Duramax guys are still seeing 20+ mpg.

I would at least wait until 65-67k miles on your dodge. I believe around this mileage your computer will trigger a service bulletin for the intake and EGR system to be cleaned. At this point in AZ it would cost about 1500 ball park for the service or 1500 for the delete. I went full delete, but I am emissions exempt being in northern AZ. I would hold onto the warranty as long as possible then figure out if the two year emissions is worth the hassle.

I have a 2017 ram 2500 mega cab deleted with the raceme tuner and a 4" delete pipe running 34.5" tires and haven't seen a fuel increase benefit but momma's got a heavy foot and its her DD.

First of all, why do you want to delete? Are you having issues with the emissions systems on it? That's why I deleted my 2011 Dmax - terrible fuel mileage, constant regens, no notices to fill DEF then all of a sudden they show up to fill within 50 miles or limp mode would be triggered. The 11's didn't have any DEF gauges, just a warning message that tells you at 1000 miles, 750, 500, then at 200 with w/reduced power warnings - mine bypassed all those and went straight to 50 miles (or else).

Removing emission equipment in CA is a violation of VC 27156 and is usually treated as a correctable offense and at worst can be cited as a misdemeanor. I’ve heard of people getting cited but that’s usually done to street racers. I have direct knowledge of people getting charged for their role in obtaining a fraudulent smog certification. This is pretty rare. There is no daily penalty for missing emission equipment. At least not at the state level. A good number of the diesel trucks around here are deleted. I don’t know what happened to your friend’s friend but there must be more to the story. I’m my 28 years in the business I had one guy who bought an illegal smog prosecuted but there were aggravating factors. One was he did it twice. The other was that he sold a completely ripped 82 firebird to an 18 year old girl and when she found the car would take about 3K to be made legal she tried to get him to take the car back. He told her to go to Hell. He then told me to go to Hell. He bought the cert out the back door of a well established and respected shop. He also worked as a car salesman at a dealership. The DA filed charges and the judge ordered probation and restitution. I then forwarded the case to DMV who went after his salesman’s license.

Fuel filters i get off Amazon. All Mopar brand and part numbers... Lot cheaper than the dealer... ran them in my 17 and run them in my 19

I don’t tow much yet I drive one. Why you ask? Well my 04 5.9 on 37s still gets 18mpg highway with my foot out of it. The truck doesn’t flinch an inch driving up the mountain where I live, it kicks ass in the snow, hauls my annual firewood with ease, tows my boat like it doesn’t exist. Turbo whistle never gets old. I’ve considered going back to a gasser but why? Would I buy any new truck though? No! Expensive and for what? A trucks a damn truck.

I’m running thuren coils, fox ifp shocks, thuren track bar with metalcloak control arms, fox ifp steering stabilizer and no sway bar. I run 37s on a 17inch wheel. My truck drives amazing and rides great in pretty much anything

Heads up for everyone modifying their software via "tuning".

Recent smog class informed me of CA's new abilities via their new testing platform, they can see if the software has been altered.

Even if reverted. For those that use the "swap" tune where you can flip between "on the pipe" and "stock", don't forget to erase your counters.

Yep. They are wise to all the current tricks, and are hunting you now.

Side note, I would never tune anything until it was out of factory warranty. They can tell if you altered the programming.

So would my smarty JR leave a foot print so to speak if I put it back to stock?

Yes, there is a base counter that trips every time the map is altered. Most tuners cannot clear that counter.

As far as your specific tuner, I have no idea, but it is certainly something to question before you use them.

Shit so what should I do now 🤦‍♂️
Call them and have them reassure you that they are defeating the counter?

Or do more research and figure out what you bought can do, and it's shortcomings.

You just described my 07 5.9. I have people offering to buy it for more than I paid for it in 09. It’s. Got 125K miles. As much as I I’d like to have a new one I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.
