6.0 only available in 3/4 ton, 6.2 only available in 1/2 ton.
I want a 1/2 ton but the mirrors are puny for towing. 1/2 is also hard to find w/ 6.5' bed and crew cab.
Would you go with 6.0, 3/4 ton or order a 1/2 ton with 6.2?
Towing will be occasional about 6500 lbs max and I want some giddyup from the engine.
Also does the 6.2 have a noisy fan like the Ford Ecoboost?

Mirrors are an easy upgrade. Get the 1/2 ton and put towing mirrors on it.

You can order the same towing mirrors on the 1/2 as the 3/4. If you aren't needing the extra tow capacity, I'd go 1/2 all day long. Better ride quality, truck sits a bit lower so it's easier to get in and out, lighter truck, 8 speed transmission, better mpg, and less registration costs. Get ahold of Jay or Jason Holley and I bet they can find you a crew cab 6.5' bed (I wouldn't do the 5'8" bed either) with the right engine with your preferred options.

I didn't know about the 91 fuel requirement, I would still get it anyway though. Great info on the mirrors also.

[emoji106]that motor has pretty good reviews though. And apparently better gas mileage.

I'd like to hear from someone that has one also, I think it's 425 HP. Gears are tall though 3.23?

I have a 2011 1500 z71 with the 6.2, it does require 91. Its the older version, with the 6 speed. Comparing it to my Dad's 2013 2500 w/ the 6.0 and 6 speed, it's night and day. The 2500 is slow at best, (though the torque is decent) and the 1500 ride is much better. I would suggest the 1500 only for the 6.2 option, if towing is not a main concern. I have also considered changing to the 2500 mirror, just need to find a power set for a decent price. I was pricing a new version of my truck today, but with the 6.5 bed this time. Also agree the 5'8 bed is just too short. 57,000 for an LTZ w/ 6.2-

Does it have electric fans, are they loud?

Been driving a 3.5 Ecoboost for five years and didn't realize the fans were noisy --- I'll have to pay attention, because basically when I start it, run it, or drive it, I hear damn near nothing, including the engine and exhaust.
I've heard the fans when they come on after I pull into the garage, but now I'll have to give a listen in a parking lot or sitting at a signal, just never noticed.
Perhaps the fans sound noisy to you because there's no exhaust sound to mask it.
With the 6.2 like I had in my last Denali, you won't hear the fans over the exhaust rumble --- which is a nice rumble, great engine.

Could be, the exhaust is quiet compared to the 4.6 I had. I drive a '16 with an Ecobost and the fans are loud. If I order at a drive-through have to shut the engine off to hear.
Thanks for the info on the 6.2! [emoji106]

Well damn you anyway :bash: Now I'll be listening for the fans I haven't heard in five years and it will probably start driving me crazy :smackhead

I just traded my '15 Silverado 1500 with 6.2 on an identical '17. The engine is amazing for power but I only tow 8K. Both trucks are 8speed autos. I use 87 octane unless pulling and had no issues in 60k miles.

This is RDP...6500 lbs requires nothing less than a dually diesel [emoji106]

And that boat trailer better have three axles [emoji106]

The new limit is 5000 lbs requires a 1 ton dually. And you have to bitch and complain how much the new truck costs.

And if you haven't modified the truck within the first 24 hours in a manner approved by the RDP members, you will get "Gonged" and properly humiliated :eek

I saw a 2 axle jet ski trailer in Parker, and it was a 2 place trailer.

That's become more of a necessity with many of these new three seaters hitting a thousand pounds each + trailer weight :eek

We have a 2017 Z71 crew cab 5ft 8 box with the 6.2. Ordered it end of last year from Jason Holley. Took less than 8 weeks to arrive. Jason was a pleasure to deal with.

I wanted an LTZ without a sunroof, didn't want a high country. Reason we ordered it.

I leveled it and am running 285/65/18's. Basically a 33/11.50 tire. Nitto ridge grapplers. Hybrid at/mt. The 8 speed is what makes the 3.23's work great. Love the truck.

Ride quality is very smooth, the 6.2 gets it on. Plenty of smooth power. We have taken several road trips. Cruising 80-85mph is only 1700-1800rpm. 22.7 is the best road trip hand calculated mileage.

420 HP 460TQ is what it is rated at. Yes it runs on 91 also. It will run on 87 or 89 if you had to. 5.3 power is what it makes after timing pulled.

I could have had a great deal on a Lariat also. I liked the interior of the Silverado and the power band of the 6.2 much better than the F150 Ecoboost. Braking to m is better than the F150 also.

To give you an idea of power of the 5.3 and 6.2 Ecotec motors. We pulled our 335 Hallett from Havasu to Boulder NV with a 2015 5.3 Z71. Max weight 11k. E rated tires, 5100 Bilsteins. Trans ran at 190 the entire way, 10.6 mpg, temp stayed at 208. These half ton trucks are hands down more capable than 3/4 trucks of the 90's and early 2000's.

Lots of great information, thanks for all details! [emoji106]
The configuration of 6.2 Eco/Crew Cab and 6.5 bed are difficult to find. Dealer did a search yesterday and the closest one to me is somewhere in CA, I'm in Tucson, AZ. At this point I'll likely order an '18 model. I built one this morning and sticker would be $59K~ for a Z71 LTZ('17, not sure how much '18 will be).
I don't want a High Country either.
My personal vehicle presently is an '09 Dmax with Z71/LTZ, I like that trim.

Call Jason and order exactly what you want. Was the easiest vehicle purchase I have ever made. Sticker was the same on ours when I did the build your own. Through Jason the OTD price was much less.

I agree. We went Z71/LTZ. All interior trim is silver accented instead of wood grain. Gauge cluster is cooler also. Z71 door sill plates. HID headlights are really nice. We ordered every option except the sunroof.
