We got ourselves one of those Amazon FireSticks.. I just opened it out of the box and haven't even plugged it into a TV yet.

What's the trick on making this thing like the magic box? Someone posted some "How To's" in a thread awhile back but I'll be damned if I can find it.

I have the firebox, but bought it preloaded with everything from Arcstream. You probably aren't going to like the stick since it isn't quad core like your magic box.

LOL.. I have the very first magic box.. The ole S3 dual core action box and I love the shit out of it. I wasn't ever sure what the newer faster ones would do that mine doesn't? And mine isn't slow by any means?

Stick with what works! I thought you upgraded to the quad core when it came out. Did your stick come set up with Kodi and all the add ons?

Do a search on your forums for fire stick and you'll see C2s notes.

I'll be there next week and have the stuff on my laptop -it takes me ~10 minutes to do the fire stick with Kodi/genesis/ llama etc. Hmmm an RDP hat would sure be nice...

My kid got me the Amazon box - the one like Apple TV and had his friend download Kodi and the related software/files. It works pretty good, but I need a new router. The one from Verizon just ain't cutting it, movies keep buffering. He said that I need a dual or tri band router with multiple antennas, that'll take me from 50 bps to over 300bps. That's what he does so I believe him. In the next couple of weeks I'll get the big router and give it a shot.

The newer wireless routers haul the mail. I can get 120 Mbps on my new one, the same as I'm getting from a hard line.

Also, make sure you have fast service. 20 Mbps won't cut it if you have multiple users streaming video at the same time.

Call Verizon and have them relocate your router to near the TV and run a hard line from the box to the router. Also try different streams. If it takes more than 10 - 20 seconds to load a movie than it will most likely buffer because of the bad link.

What do they charge for that? In thinking of upgrading routers it's 199 I think. Or rent it for 10 bucks a month

They charged me $90 for the tech to come out and run everything and I own the router.

The guy told me there were only two routers I could use.. The one I have and the upgraded one. Any truth to that? I always figured i could but one at costco but he said something about Verizon fios blah blah blah

I don't know. They gave me a router when they installed, never charged me for it and I don't pay a monthly fee for it either so I guess it is mine.....[emoji12]

One nice thing about renting from your provider:
No charge if a tech has to come to your house

I used to buy my own, but they all crapped out after about a year or so...so now I just pay $10 a month to rent one.
I've already had two techs come out to fix shit, because TWC sucks donkey balls, but there was no charge to me.

Not sure yet, I'm going to plug it in tonight after work and start messing with it.

will do

I would trade for that in a heartbeat. I'm going to mess with it tonight a little bit and see what happens, but if it turns into a PITA then your on. LOL

Dave,
You should try to do it on your own, therefore if anything needs to be updated, you won't be lost. Sure it may take some learning but it will be something ur glad u did. C2's info should explain it.

Is there a complete idiots guide to setting this thing up with Kodi? Can I do it all through my laptop of do I need the TV? (Wife is watching a stupid movie that can't be interrupted, and I'm bored)...all I'm allowed to play with for the next hour is the laptop

Edit: ok, I tried. Either I'm dumb or my laptop is too outdated. I can get the fire app to run, but my laptop won't completely download Kodi for android, the file seems to exist, but when I enter the location in the app, says file not found. Fuck it, I'll have the IT guy knock it out tomorrow.
