Newbie first post slept under rds pool table once or twice. Wanted to get some feedback on what type of anchor to get for a 21 ft boat.
Not to dispute Mr. HWlaser23's advice, but I have a 17ft. and I went with one step larger on both Box and Slide Anchor than really needed for my app. Guarenteed to hold (and it has) in whatever current or bottom ya set it in and the added "size" also guarentees it will hold when you're the first one anchored and all of your "Johnny-Come-Lately", late riser friends want to tie off on your set.To answer ur question get the small box anchor and the small sand spike. That's all u will need for the 21 footer. Ur only delema should be polished or galvanized.
I have both The box anchor and and shore spike and they work great. I would like to have a second anchor just in case. I found this picture and I'm not sure who makes it or where to go so I can see one but it looks like it might be a cool second anchor. Any body know anything about these anchor's.

I believe Dana marine products makes those anchors.. (the triangle folding ones).

ya just have to tune it with chain, or get the bigger version until ya get the best bite.
The farther out your bow line to the box anchor the better they work. Within reason.
Another cool thing about them is you simply get right above the box anchor for easy removal.
Get a Danik Hook from them also, it's a whole lot easier than tieing knots.
I think when ever business gets slow ,someone comes on these forums and starts asking about box anchors ...maybe the owner ????:headscratch:

Hi, it's my first post too! As for the box and slide anchor goes. It really depends on how deep and where you're trying to tie up the boat. If you're near a sandbar/shore, the slide anchor will be much better. However, if you're in the middle of the river the box anchor will surely do better. Also, the big giant screws like to tie a dog with also work extremely well.
Hope this helps.
Doesn't she drive Indy Cars?

Of course, if ya don't have the room to stow it, ya gotta go w/what you can.
JMO.
I've had them get away from me, but probably any anchor would have it the same situation.
The strong winds, the bobbing of the boat in the killer rollers, the current of the river working, the level of the river rising and falling it can add up.
It seems from my beach chair observations when a MFSOB of a windstorm suddenly hits,, the water speed from the Parker dams release slows way down.
Perhaps it's to help boaters, damfino.
Tieing the aft line to a palm tree (in addition to the spike) has saved many a boaters ass on the Emerald & Echo lodge beaches.
At night I sleep easy knowing the boat is on the trailer.

It's like I said earlier; it's not about just anchorin' your boat. It's also about all your "late riser friends" who tie off on your set too. Too each their own but I've always been a "Boy Scout" and like to prepared and I don't like the feel of havin' to tell peops that they can't tie off on my set if I can help it. I've had as many as 4-5 boats tied off on my "medium" w/no problems. :thumbsupI was confused for a bit there. I looked at slideanchors web site and realized there are 4 diff sizes. Baby small large and extra large. (When I bought mine they had 2 sizes. Small and large). Baby is for PWC's small is for 18 to 30fters large is for up to 40fters and extra large is for house boats and n e thing over 40ft. I have a 23ft boat and have had the small box anchor for 5 years I've used it havasu mead and Parker and once in the ocean. It's never failed in n e way on me. I believe all of u that say uv had to go bigger but I can't understand y. My boat weighs like 4k and the small box which ain't so small btw holds me in current or stagnant water. My "small" box anchor in it's ready position is about 1 ft square maybe slightly bigger. I can't believe that's not enough for some of the 17 and 18 footers out there. To each there own. Ur the capt of ur tub and it's all about what works for u![]()

Yeah I hear u on the Johnny come latelys. I've got plenty of those types of friends. My "small" box will hold 3 23ft boats or less in tandem in a current at the sandbar on havi. In steamboat I've had 7 on my 1 anchor with all of us side tied. Nowadays if I become more than a flotilla of 4 I'll make someone throw there's for the just in case factor![]()
lori thinks that is funny, river rookie, hey where is capt'n dumbass
shes in the livin room eatin dinner. u goin out this weekend right???
Where is the most reasonable place to buy a box style anchor?

I use both spike and box anchors instead of chain you can geta a short bungee to tie to your box anchor then tie your anchor line to the other end of the bungee. This allows for the boat to ride up and down with the boat wakes without pulling up the anchor. A nice side effect especially where the water rises and lowers overnight you can put it out far enough to keep the prop off the bottom at low water levels, at high water levels you can grab the shore line(sand spike) rope and pull it back to shore for loading up and such.
