I think its the first time for me.... but I have a perko 2 battery switch failure. Is it a common enough failure to just replace it and forget about it or should I be looking for something that caused the failure. This is on a simple 350 chevy with 2 batteries.

Is there a new modern upgrade? I am thinking about a single battery switch and a smart battery isolator relay on the second battery that is wired for the house/stereo load.

I had one fail on my Scarab. Took some investigation to pin it down.

Yep, I've had them go-out . . . years ago there must've been a bad run of them. Had like 3 go out in a short amount of time.
I switched to another brand and haven't had problems since. Knock-on wood.

Changing out the switch is no big deal. It's when you start adding the other goodies that will cost you time and money to do it correctly. 👍

I had one fail years ago (late 80's) while on the water and had to MacGyver it to get me back to the boat launch. Got out the electrical tape and taped the -'s to the -'s and the +'s to the +'s and used plastic cups as insulators. Angus would have been proud...

Stopped using Perko years ago, Cole-Hersee or Blue-Sea. Cant risk a call from a team in Mexico with elec problems running any of the score races.

I had one go bad on my Scarab too. Ended up replacing all the wiring as well to make sure I was dialed in.

I just did the blue sea switch with the charging isolator thing works great such a world of difference between how the switch feels. My perko felt cheap and the blue sea system feels smooth and of higher quality though I can not actually confirm that it actually is it just feels that way! And you can put the charging isolator on whenever you want it's separate from the switch. So you can get up and running now and upgrade/modify later.
