Any AZ folks into Apache Lake?

I'm headed out this weekend and either camping at Burnt Corral or staying at the hotel in celebration of the end of the world!

Anyone else? :drunk

If it weren't for the long, dirt, wash boardy, cliff hanging, one lane bridges, blind corners, and the occasional "drifting" racer's, I'd be at that lake everytime I used the boat.:(

how many miles of dirt to get there?
If you come threw rosy its only about 2-4 miles of dirt. Comming fish creek road is like 14 and that is the scary part. We usually cover the boat before we get to the dirt.

The best thing about driving the Apache Trail into Apache Lake is that it keeps alot of the lazy asses and low lifes out. Anybody that takes that road really wants to be there. I think thats why the people are so much fun there. We're starting our summer there this year on Memorial Day. Plan on being there just about every other weekend this summer. We keep the Caliber 1 in dry storage there, and our houseboat (the Cool Move) in the Marina. Stop by the houseboat if you ever make it down that way!:thumbsup

I love livin in Havasu, but I do miss Apache lake sometimes. Campin at Burnt Corral, sundown drag races outside the wakeless buoys (my 65mph DCB took down a couple of the "80mph" jetboats). I was even there camped on the beach the evening that Gary Smith (infamous owner of Predator) had a patch delaminate and sunk his 130mph 22' Daytona. Some of my best boating trips were to Apache.:party2:

Ya, we get alot of horsepower running up and down that end of the lake. It's one of just a few lakes with no speed limit or noise restriction. I still prefer the noise all the girls make down in Party Cove:drnkfr

Tys a bit intoxicated. Its 28 miles of dirt via fish creek and 14 miles of dirt the roosey way.
Really nothing to see there at apache. Move along. It sux. Its cold water and the people there are douchies. Ask all the Tucson peps that go there. Sucky lake:grumble:

Love Apache Lake!!! It really is a fun lake. Fish Creek hill isn't that bad. I pulled my 24 footer there many times. It only sucks when you come up on a motorhome:eek:

Brian, I drive up from Tucson, and we go thru Fish Creek, pulling our boat or not. The way thru Roosevelt usually has alot more wasboards. I pulled my boat from Apache 2 weeks ago to get it ready for Desert Storm and then to Parker Strip 2 weeks later, we'll take it back to Apache for Memorial day weekend and leave it there for the summer. I have friends going up this weekend - they stay in the RV park - where do you stay when you're there?

Takes me 1.2 hours from Tempe threw rosie. If your taking your boat go that way. Don't come down fish creek hill, not fun at all

Was just there 2 weeks ago and the road from Rosie wasn't bad at all. More wash boards going out fish creek hill.

I've never been to Apache.
I live about 10 miles from Canyon, and have gone up there to check it out a few times, but my boat is so far from being water ready I've never been on the water.

Funny, my folks came out here last week for the first time from Ohio. (I've lived out here 3 yrs).
I learned that my Mother is capable of talking non-stop from the time she wakes up, until they would leave for the hotel in the evening. It was REALLY wearing on me and the wife.:grumble:
On their last day here, we decided to take them for a drive up rt88 up to Tortilla Flat:D We drove past TF and turned around when it turned to the dirt rd.
My Mother was terrified to silence the entire ride just driving up the winding tight two-lane rd with no guard rails to a couple thousand foot drop-off.;) I think she was covering her eyes in the backseat half the time.
My Father was even freaked out by just the rds leading to my "doublewide", and he retired from being a professional truck driver for 30yrs just 2 yrs ago.
I think in his mind he was imagining trying to drive them in a semi with a 48' trailer.

I know:eek:
Actually, getting into the dirt rd and towing my 4500# boat through that kinda scares the crap out of me...
But the ride worked on quieting my Mom for a while:D
Don't get me wrong, I love my folks, but sometimes you need a break;)

I'll camp at Burnt Corral if I have a large party and people who know how to camp. This weekend I have 4 ladies with me so we're at the hotel..... I have a fifth wheel that I'm considering yanking up there and leaving it.....

My friends the Tweetys do the same thing. You probably know Tyler?

I know of a Tyler with a black boat. I guess you better take the east end thru Roosevelt, since Fo' siddy says the washboards aren't too bad on that leg. They were bad 2 weeks ago on the west leg thru Fish Creek. Have fun:thumbsup

One of the best trips (seriously) was when your truck broke down 1 mile from the marina after conquering fish creek with our boats in tow.

Disappearing boats, kamakazi tow truck drivers........lol

Last year after I started this thread, my trailer fell apart 1 mile from the marina Friday afternoon around 3:30. I was stuck on the side of that road with a tank full of fuel in the boat, fishing poles, ski equipment, and a cooler full of beer. Needless to say, I drug the boat with no brakes, 2 wheels, and brake rotors dragging through the dirt and launched that afternoon. I fixed the trailer Sunday.....lol

Ha ha! Can't let a breakdown stop our fun! Back at the beginning of March, I was traveling to Apache with 3 kids, girlfriend, dog, and all our food, ice chests, etc. in the back of my truck, full load. It was about 10 at night and I was still on the pavement, where the road is real curvy and narrow. All of the sudden I felt a thump and my truck came to a halt. I was lucky because one of the very few pull offs was right in front of me, so I limped to the pull off and as soon as I was off the side of the road, my rear tire and wheel fell completely off. We got even luckier because we had cell phone service. Long story short - called my buddy who had just arrived at Apache, still an hour away - he came back for us. Called AAA and had truck towed into town to have wheel studs repaired. We got to the lake about 1 am and had a great weekend, got a ride back on Sunday to pickup and pay for truck repairs and head home.
