So I am thinking about a new Bimini for my Boat. I currently have what I think is a basic one. It does the job but for me and my wife and soon to be baby it might be too small.

My questions are what should I expect to pay for a larger stainless Bimini with poles instead of straps. Also how big should I go? 8ft? Not sure what looks good and has maximum function. Also what are the cost for these?

Here is my current setup

This is my friends Boat and he put an 8ft one in last season he paid 2700 for it. To me that seems really high!

I would want something like this that I can stand under as well

I’d say run what you got! If you MUST do something add stainless rear poles. Then go buy some of the bimini clips so you can hang towels in different locations. I have some big dorky plastic flip flop clips we use when the boy wants to nap, just take a big beach towel and clip it to the poles and wha lha, clips cost like 7-8$ at Walmart vs 2800$ on new bimini

I was parked next to you at 3 dunes on Friday with the 25 Daytona, that one ran around 1500 I believe I'll look up the information when I get home later and see if I have any pictures

I would stick with straps instead of poles and that will keep your cost down. Boat isn't going 80, so no need for poles.

Also, I think boats look super weird with tall bimini's. When you have kids, the damn thing will be up ALL......THE.....TIME, so you want it to look good. Personally I am not a fan of your buddies. Just doesn't fit the boat.

Here is mine......works perfect and I think it looks pretty good too.

2500-3000 for a 8ft stainless with bars instead of straps. They are worth it for the extra sun protection but obviously are pricy.

I’d get some quotes in havasu and so cal.

Pretty crazy how exspensive they are now. Maybe your guys are right stick with it and do the towel and clamps trick.

Joe you are right I do want it to look good too lol. For some reason I don’t think mine looks good at all

I'd go this route as well. That's how we did it on our 21 footer with a 6 foot bimini. The boat and sun are always moving, you can do a lot more with towels and clips for a helluva lot less.

I'm in the wrong biz. Wife has a sewing machine. Hmmm LOL
I need a new bimini top too some day. I will be replacing some worn straps this year for sure.

Nordic did mine a couple years ago, 8ft stainless poles. Way cheaper than $2700.

So another trick I learned from Vince at King Kid, is to NEVER twist your straps. When I used to do that and run the boat up to 60, my back straps would come loose and start flapping in the wind. Now, I run them straight and they never come loose.

Funny you say that. When I run them straight they hum real loud. One twist and no hum. Never had an issue with them ever loosening.

We run them tight too.

+1 always have one twist in the strap to prevent the humming

I'd recommend you stick with straps, because when you fold that bigger bimini up, with all those poles, it ends up being 4-6 poles high and is a beast to operate and climb over when its down. Then when it's folded up, the poles start collapsing on each other and dont stack right, so you start looking for those bimini buddy clamps to straighten them out. But those are a PITA also...

I wouldn't go 8 I'd leave it the same as what you have now...my buddy's is 8 and it looks goofy imo. He hates it too lol. Doesn't help that I remind him how weird it looks everytime he puts it up lol. Mines up all summer long. I liked the height my ultra was at. Little lower then my Howard.

Mine looks a lot cleaner then that folded up and the hold down poles come off.

Here is what I did took my bimini to Lee at Cover Me Custom 928 846 1659 he was able to use my old frame and some how made the top lower by moving the bars which made the bimini about 1 foot longer so all I payed paid for was a new top to go back on my old frame. I also added the woven material down the center of the top .

I usually take my hold down poles off also, still it sits huge. Mine is over 12’ when extended. I want to re-mount it so when it’s down it sits BEHIND the scoop instead of over it with those little stand off poles. That might make it better

That would definitely help

I think yours looks good.

I didn’t read all of th responses, but but I’d keep it as is for now, and keep the straps.Buy some HF black clips and some big towels @ Costco Hang the towels from the Bimini when you beach it for extra shade. I do at least one, and sometimes 2 with the kids. The entire rear cabin is shaded with 1 or 2 towels. Tons of shade for the little one. If you need to cool off, soak towels, wring them out and hang them. I keep like 8 of the 3/4 clips from Harbor Freight on the boat. They fit the rails and bimini perfectly. I clip a towel over one side of the bow for entry and exit.

Is your top flat from the pic looks like it has a little bump/hump in it? Maybe the angle of the pic... How long is your current Bimini?

I think you could go a little longer on the back rear bar, your rear straps look kinda long and flat and make it appear to be long /longer in the rear and the Frt straps are at a steeper angle, I think somewhat balancing the angle of the Frt and rear straps would look mo betta!

I dig on the colors!
