Considered posting the boat on boat trader and was surprised. Boat trader wanted $399 to post until sold. $279 to post for 12 weeks. This was with a 120k asking price. I played with it and changed the price to 10k and the price to list until sold went down to $249.

I understand RE and other commission based services gain more commission based on sales price but that usually entails more work to sell it. Not always- but usually.

Boattrader is doing no more advertising or increased visibility when the price goes up, they just want more money.

Thoughts?

I’d do Str8up toy trader.. my site the toysyndicate is going through a revamp right now but will launch next week with introductory rates of 50.00. It will be pretty effective

They are clinging on to the fray as their market share continues to decline.

I found and bought a Howard 22 Offshore 11 years ago that was advertised on Powerboat Listings.Com, I just checked and it still listed. The $50 that guy paid for that ad, he definitely got his money’s worth.

Facebook Marketplace, RD and Craigslist is all you need. Nobody even goes to those other sites. You're wasting your money. Boat Trader hasn't been a go to for at least 20 years since they stopped producing their little magazine in 7/11's. I buying boat traders back in the day!

It's crazy to me there's still ads from 10 plus years ago on there. Some of the boats have been bought and sold numerous times since then.

The thing I run into when searching Boat Trader is that they never seem to take down old ads. There are boats on there that sold years ago and still the ad keeps saying available. Try to contact seller and they don’t respond because the boat is long gone.

Maybe they do that to help fill the pages to make it appear more active then it really is? Or are they just too cheap and lazy to manage their site effectively?

Last year my son was at the river and one of his guys in his group knew that I had a Howard 22 Offshore and was asking how I liked it, my son told him that I really liked it and it'll probably be my forever boat. He told my son that he found one that he really likes, but the guy won't return his calls. He showed the ad to my son and he told him, "that's my dad's boat! He's had it for about 10 years!" Then he said, "No wonder the guy isn't calling me back."

It may be the responsibility of the poster to go back in and cancel the add once sold?
