asked my daughter if she wanted to do some fishing this weekend and without hesitation she said yes. I’ve taken all my kids fishing since they were toddlers and it has stuck with them.

Our favorite place to go is Camp Nelson in the Sequoia national forest area so here we are. We’ve always wanted to buy a place out here so we’re going to check out a couple places that are for sale also.

We’ve rented many cabins here throughout the years and this one is the nicest so far. It is sanitary clean for a cabin. Surrounded by some beautiful scenery and just a few minutes from one of my favorite fishing spots.

I've never been there. My neighbor and her sister have a cabin there.

It’s a conservative neighborhood here which is a plus. The people that live here full time are very nice. They have one local store with the basics and it has a small bar and restaurant next to it as well.

To be continued…..

My girlfriend family used to have a place there. Where do you go from there to fish?

Have been up there many times. Used to backpack out of Quaking Aspen and have hiked all over the place up there.

Have eaten at that restaurant a few times too, when we were up there for the Springville Rodeo. Gods country!!

We went to belknap and it was closed. No vehicles allowed because of the recent fires so we hit a few other places. They haven’t stocked trout since June and I didn’t see any fish at the spots we usually fish.

Also, the fires have burned down a lot of cabins and trees here. Really devastating and sad to see.

Here’s some pics from our road trip today.

I do an annual Mountain bike ride up around hat area. One day is out of Camp Nelson through the Sequoia's and then Quaking Aspen. Probably one of my favorite rides, beautiful area.

Looks like an awesome area.

Do we get to see any fish? 🤔

Going to try another spot today but it hasn’t been stocked since June and I didn’t see any fish in the water yesterday. I can spot them out with my polarized sunglasses. We’ll still try though and if that doesn’t work, we’re walking to the bar. 😁

Looks idyllic Shintoo.

One thing struck me looking at the cabin, if you and your family zero in on one with a fireplace look at the feasibility of putting an airtight wood stove in. They build units that are designed to insert into a fireplace if that is your only option, You simply need a large enough hearth to put it on. You will find you use a lot less wood and the heat will heat the room, not go up the chimney. We heat a 1700 sq. ft house with one, it is our primary source of heat...there is nothing like wood heat, and with the stove you get the added benefit of being able to cook on the thing if the power goes out or ya just feel like it. Fireplaces are nice to look at but not real effieicent if you are really wanting to heat a house.
Getting a chord of mixed softwood and hardwood delivered and covered and having it stacked and ready is a good feeling.

When I was really little my family had ownership in the RRanch in the Sequoias. Its was cool when I was a kid. Could be worth looking into as its a fractional ownership setup with very loose usage restrictions. Its a converted old logging camp. so lots of cabins, a general store. Horses, small fishing lake etc....

Took a walk to Belknap. It’s closed go cars but you can walk in to the campground. They managed to save the campground but there are burned trees all around it. Most of the trees will recover in a few years.

My dog thought she could take on this guy. Ran up to him and stopped dead in her tracks once she realized how big he was.

Lake or stream?

I’m no expert here, but!
I know that with stream/fly fishing and lakes that feed from small streams it would be a very beneficial thing for you to know larvae.

A guy I know is an expert.
You’ll never see a more perplexed camper than the one sitting there when his daughter of 10 years, runs out into the water knee deep, picks up a rock and flips it over.

Looks at what larvae are there and reports back to her dad. 😎

It’s a May fly, dad!!

Then they know what fly they are running this trip.

Glad u posted this I was trying to remember the name of this place and was gonna have to hunt the thread down. Any fish around this time ?

They stocked at the end of June but I didn’t see anything in our normal spots. There were some small native trouts in some spots though and I’ll probably be hitting those spots tomorrow if there’s nothing else.
