Need to replace the foam in a pelican gun case. I don’t want to run the regular style soft foam but want the kind of foam that feels almost hard and or rigid. What is the technical name of that material. Having a super hard time on Google figuring that out.

Top is the standard foam. Don’t want that

Bottom is the more rigid type.

Did the same thing with my harbor freight case. Got what I needed off ebay for ~$15 or so.

A buddy owns Gunfoam.com
They have incredible software that uses a pic you upload of your firearms / accessories in your case, and they laser cut a perfect foam insert for you. Very cool. They have cases available as well.

Check out the kaizen foam available on the fastcap website. I lined my whole toolbox in it. If you buy in bulk it’s super reasonable.

How did you cut it for tools?
They sell a cut kit on the website. The most important items are the knife, long nose marker and hot knife or spinner.

Essentially you lay out your tools, trace the profile, cut the profile to desired depth, peel the foam out, hot knife for flatness and finger holes.

It’s good for all kinds of stuff. I lined a packout for a range bag. You can wall mount it to hold tools. Great way to hold tools on or around the mill or lathe. It takes time but it’s a fun evening garage activity to unwind.
