Only gout suffers can understand. I had a wicked outbreak on Friday. Had no option but to tough it out for work. Was to important of a day. Ended up suffering incredibly barely able to walk or push the throttle and break pedals to and from the office. Toughed it out until today hoping the swelling and pain would go away and doing every at home remedy I could. No joy. Knowing I am heading to Vegas in the morning for a week I decided to just go to Urgent Care. $35, a shot in the ass, blood and urine work and a trip to the pharmacy and I finally feel better. Should have just done it on Friday. At least I got a little shopping in for the important things while waiting for my prescription. I don't think these will help for recovery though.

Probably not a good idea with the gout. A buddy gets it and it takes him down hard. No fun!

I have had gout for 21 years and feel your pain. I have tried many things but when you get a acute attack nothing stops it. I however have very good luck stopping the attack with in a few hours by doing the following.

First hour- 2oz Apple cider vinegar with mothers mixed with 8oz water.

Second hour- 2 tablespoons baking soda mixed with 8 oz water

Third hour- 2oz Apple cider vinegar with mothers mixed with 8oz water.

Fourth hour- 2 tablespoons baking soda mixed with 8 oz water.

I do this maybe three more hours and the pain goes away or gets to a point you can manage. This is from a online deal I read years back and for me it works.

If I feel it coming I can go two rounds and the pain goes away.

Good luck.

Runs in the family. Brother gets it worse than me and it fucked with my Dad's sis for years. Good news and bad.

Bad is that beer is the worst. It has a load of purines which cause the gout to flame and it also messes with your bodies uric acid level.

Good news is cherry juice (the real deal, not the cherry flavored bug juice), kicks gout's ass. Even better is eating cherrys, fresh, frozen, whatever. Worked great for me last time I had an attack.

Good to know.. I haven't had a flare up in a long time.. But man that first one gives me chills just thinking about it. The pain was unbelievable.

I'm def gonna take a screen shot of this. I have had three serious attacks in ten years. All of them put me in the urgen care. The others I have beaten at home. I wouldn't wish this kinda pain on an enemy. My saving grace has been my Sanuk Beer Cozy sandals. I love my leather Rainbows but with the cushy bottoms of the Sanuks its like walking on pillows. And since my feet wont fit in anything else with the swelling I guess thats what im taking to Vegas.

People thought I was nuts for buying a new pair of them at Disneyland and wearing then all day. I tried to explain it to them but people are gonna believe what they want to believe I guess..

Only footwear I have ever worn that your feet won't hurt no matter how long of a day you have.. Your feet and legs might get tired but they won't hurt.. Gotta try them to believe it.

Dealing with it right now, too much booze and good food over the weekend in the Parker heat. I knew I was getting dehydrated and still kept going because of how much fun we were having. Becky gets me the real cherry juice from Traders Joe's and that stuff really helps, but they are out of stock at her store right now... Putting my shoe on this morning was torture... SUXS!!!!

My solution is:
Stay Hydrated!
Stay away from beer!
Stay Hydrated!
Don't party too hard!
When I start to feel it coming on hydrate and drink the real tart cherry juice...

The long term shit side of it is the more flairs you have and the more your Uric acid levels stay above 8 you are doing damage to the joint. It is hard to avoid my triggers (beer, wine, red meat)!! I am starting to get a constant pain in my big toe and even when it doesn't hurt I can feel the Uric acid crystals grinding away as I walk.
Has anyone tried Uloric? It is supposed to be the newest and greatest prescription med for long term maintenance.

I second this. I had a little bout in my big toe a while back. Cherries and cherry juice worked well and I work it into my daily diet if I can. Too much meat and booze make gout worse.

I'll 3rd the cherry thing. When I had a juice company going we had a cherry juice product. Our pasteurization process used high pressure to kill the bad stuff but it didn't damage the good nutrients. We had lots of gout sufferers buying our product and swore by it. The only way you can get juice like ours is making it yourself in a juicer. Shut down the company.

Gout is the worst pain I have ever had in my life! I have had two toes torn 3/4 of the way off and it hurt less, no lie!! I stay hydrated like crazy now, being hydrated increases blood volume so it decreases uric acid levels, it also helps your body remove uric acid. Allopurinol worked wonders for me... The cherry juice, and other home stuff did not work at all for me..... Also zero alcohol now as it interferes with the removal of uric acid.... red meat once a week or less and water, water, and more water, haven't had a flair up since I started Allopurinol and drinking tons of water..... Thats what works for me, everyone is different tho and some people have bad flair ups no matter how careful they are about diet and hydration.....

Have had gout for about 15 years . When I first got it used to take weeks for it to go away . Broke my back and pelvis at the same time and GOUT hurts more . Cut out red meat & anything with tomatoes or high in uric acid and use the everything in moderation approach ( still drink but not every day any more ) . I take 1 Allopurinol 100Mg twice a day and rarely have flair ups . When I do feel it coming on I take 2 Colchicne tablets every 8 hours if needed ( 1 tablet twice a day is what is prescribed by the way ) for the first day and it usually goes away . If it doesn't go away in the first day I take 1 Colchicne with 1 Indomethacin on the 2nd day every 8 hours but it kills my guts . GOUT SUCKS !!!!

Well my flair up hasnt gone away at all. I'm on two meds methylpred plus indomethacin. We stopped in Parker this morning for breakfast. Fox's first but they werent open and settled for Roadrunners. Had some Parker health food and a couple bloody marys to wash it down. Hit up Topocks for a drink and a couple pictures and I could drive anymore. Even my beloved Sanuk Beer Cozy sandals were not helping. Foot was so swollen it was pushing them off. Had to relinquish driving duties to the wife for the rest of the run to Vegas. On the way in I realized I have no shoes that will fit. Figured I would get one of those walking boots and some crutches. Well nobody sells a boot but we got crutches. Cruising through the hotel to check in I realized FUCK this. No way am I gonna be able to cruise the strip with a bum wheel and crutches. Decided to go back to Walmart to buy some shoes I can put my fat foot in. Settled on some Christmas slippers and socksm best I could do. At this point I give up on leaving the hotel again until at least the swelling goes down. Wifes a trouper at least and putting up with my sorry but. Thinking about going back to Walmart and hijacking one of those hoveround things.

You really need to stick to plain basic foods. No more than 4oz of protein in any meal and no booze. I will drink a gallon of tart cherry juice and over a gallon of water a day.

Try the apple cider vinegar and baking soda trick. You can get Bragg Apple cider vinegar at any health food store or good grocery store.

I have been in your position before and walking around is killing you and your vacation.

Are you still in pain? Cut the vinegar with some honey or Agave.. Make sure you drink the baking soda alternating every hour for 4 hours. Stop and wait a few hours and repeat one more time. It works..

Id be careful with Baking soda. My uncle used that to help with acid reflux and ended up wiping out the acids in his stomach... Ended up in a world of pain.

My pains ended on Tuesday. I was finally able to go mobile. The swelling went down yesterday and I could fit a pair of shoes. Much happier now. Iv decided no more beer and gonna take everybodys advice and limit my red meat. That kinda misery wasnt worth the enjoyment of the intake. I did however enjoy some serious margaritas during my time in Vegas though.

I've been dealing with gout for a few years now. Trying to stay away from the Alipuronal on an ongoing basis. I've got a few Colchisine for flare ups.
I'm trying to watch what I eat, and I've got a few things that seem to be working for me.
First, I've cut way back on the daily beer intake. No more Jack and Cokes, now I mix the Jack with Lemonade, tea or good ole ice, I have maybe one coke a week. ( I used to have a coke every morning at least, I don't do coffee) I drink a ton of water every day now.
I take two cherry pills in the morning, and at night.
I have increased my fruit intake a bunch, bananas, oranges and apples especially help with Uric Acid levels. Another "home remedy" trick I recently tried, with good results, take a lime, squeeze the juice into a small glass of water and down that. The lime juice is said to kill the purines which lead to uric acid production. Felt a that first little "tightness" in my foot last week, did the lime trick, within a few hours no issue.

To those that haven't suffered, you have no idea.

Kratom is a natural pain killer that is in the coffee family. We take the leaf, dry it out and put it into capsules.
Natural pain killer that can work phenomenally and puts ibuprofen to shame imo.

I'm just finishing up about a three week ordeal. Finally had to see the doc and get some anti inflamatories and antibiotics. He shot me with some cortisone also which helped. I've had small bouts with it before but this was the worse. My diet is pretty good so I have to say it's the beer that brings it on for me. I just ordered tart cherry juice from amazon and I'm going to start taking an ounce everyday to see if that will control it.

Well I don't know if its gout or the start if a bunion, but my big toe joint on my right foot is killing me. There has been a slight ache for a week or so. I spent a lot of time this past weekend working in my garage. This morning I could hardly walk. I've got an ice pack on it now but it still hurts like hell. My dad suffered from gout. He said red wine was his culprit so he only drank white wine. Tomorrow I am calling the doc to get this diagnosed..... [emoji16]

Not sure if that's gout or not since you can put an ice pack on it. I know when I had a flare up I couldn't even take the weight of a bed sheet on top of it.

After a few boughts with it the doctor gave me a prescription for Alllopurinol. In the last two months I've had some tingling but not anything uncomfortable.

Ice pack didn't last very long for that exact reason, and I slept all night with my foot outside of the covers. It was extremely painful at bed time (the only time I have been in worse pain is when I had Shingles). I took some Advil and slept ok. This morning, it is still sore, but no where as bad as it was last night. We'll see how it is as I walk on it throughout the day.....

I am going to call the doc this morning to see if I can get in to have the blood checked to see if it is Gout and if so get something for it.....

Scouter for your sake I hope it isn't gout. I'm also on the daily Allopurinol and have been having good luck. Gave up on beer completely as I've read the yeast is what kills the foot. Now it's distilled vodka or wiskey. Good luck with anybody any Yuma doing more than a shot in the backside and a 7 day pack of meds though. And like others have said drink water. Lots of it.

Scouter, If its gout and you don't have cherry juice, try the lime juice trick. Take a lime, squeeze the juice from half the lime into an 8 oz glass of water. Repeat this in an hour or so. The lime juice Quickly reduces the uric acid in your system. It works great for me.
Advil will help with the inflammation.

Okay, here's the skinny on this Gout. Runs on my dads side of the family, my dad didn't have it but his two brothers did. Had it so bad one uncle had a pair of tennis shoes with the big toe area cut out so he could wear something when he had it. When i get it, it usually hits the big toe or my knee cap where i can barely walk. So, bad i stayed away from all shell fish, processed foods like lunch meat or anything that contained a lot of nitrate, Der Weiner hot dogs, Anything Oscar Meyer made. My wife buys all of our lunch meat for sandwiches from Sprouts or Whole Foods. Had another flare up eating Tempura Shrimp, 2 lousy pieces, 2 days prior, could barely walk to the head in the middle of the night. Doc, put in a prescription for Colchicine, this is only for flare ups, not before your going to pound a few beers. Went to pick up the prescription and it was $80.00 for 18 friggin' pills. I told her there has to be a mistake! She tells me next time have the Doc prescribe the generic brand. Oh well, paid it. She asks if i want to talk to the Pharmacist, i said sure since i'm here. He comes over and says i also have gout, he's about 75 years old and has suffered from it all his life. He's done a lot of research, tells me the shell fish theory is a myth. Gout symptoms take 2-3 days to go thru your system before it becomes a problem, so it's something you ate or drank 2-3 days prior. It's anything with sugar or breaks down into sugar, i luv donuts, sugar in your coffee, any regular type of soft drink, Gator Aid or any of those types of drinks, white bread, white rice. Told him i have 3 cold beer mugs in the freezer and i have 3 cold beers almost every day. Beer, wine, any alcohol that contains sugar. Told him just shoot me then if i can't have a beer, hell summers coming.
I've cut EVERYTHING i possibly can that contains sugar or breaks down into sugar, it crystalizes and goes straight to the joints. My wife and i went to dinner a couple nights ago, took a gamble and had a 4 piece tempura shrimp dinner, either i was gonna kill this pharmacist or kiss him. I literally waiting for the bomb to go off, NUTTIN', NADA ! Went to the fake sugar for the coffee, no more donuts Sunday morning, sandwiches with wheat bread, no Cheese Cake Factory cheese cake damn it! No birthday cake. Had 3 beers Saturday and nothing happened.
So, hopefully by cutting all the sugar out of my diet, i can still have a few, we'll see when i start pounding a 12 pack! Hahahahahaha

A man is not a man until he has had a steroid injection into a toe joint.:eek

My mates a personal trainer and gets it so bad in both feet it near brings him to tears. This man is no soft cock in fact he is a real hard bastard but it can get so bad he can not place any weight on his feet until the steroids kick in.:( Sure is not a pretty site seeing a grown man crawling on his knees to go to the loo.:thumbsdown

It always happens after he has a session on the piss or a plate full of shrimp. Sometimes it's hard to give up on some of life's pleasures even if it brings a world of pain.:(

No shit. My doc is pretty damn good at it. When I got my first one I was cringing but I hardly felt it and then he grabbed my tow and worked it back and forth, instant relief[emoji106]
