So I am a big fan of the show deadliest Catch, I'm positive I've seen every episode. I dont know if it has been discussed before but it amazes me that these guys dont get in trouble for all the crap they dump into the ocean. I've seen garbage, cars, cardboard, electronics, and I dont know what else. Just this season they dumped that truck that was used as a prank, maybe they figure it serves as some sort of fish habitat like some of the destroyers they sink on purpose. I'm just surprised that the eco nazi groups havent come out guns a blazin about this. Anyone else notice this?

I've wondered about that as well, especially as eco/global friendly as Discovery channel is supposed to be. The truck I figure could be used as a fish habitat, but it kind of bothered me when Johnathan kicked Squawky's cardboard box into the drink. If I saw someone do that at the lake I'd throw them in after it :hmm

Under the MARPOL agreement and U.S. federal law, it is illegal for any vessel to discharge plastic or garbage containing plastic into any waters. Additionally restrictions on dumping non-plastic waste are outlined below.

3 nautical miles from shore - Illegal to dump Plastic & All other Trash.

3 to 12 nautical miles offshore - ILLEGAL TO DUMP Plastic, Dunnage, lining & packing materials that float. All other trash if not ground to less than one inch square

12 to 25 nautical miles offshore - ILLEGAL TO DUMP Plastic, Dunnage, lining & packing materials that float.

Outside 25 nautical miles offshore ILLEGAL TO DUMP Plastic.

You must be referring to one of the last episodes with the little bird where the captain throws the cardboard box overboard? I saw that too and i thought....what a dipshit why would you do that.

I have a friend/customer that's worked on the Time Bandit et al. He has some pretty wild stories.............I'll ask him next time he comes in/before a few beers.

I would imagine the cardboard box will be 100% de-composed within a few days in the ocean, who know's? I'll just ask why they do that.

Bingo! The birds box was a surprise to me because earlier it showed he had put a plastic bowl in there for the bird to drink from. There is an eposide that shows some old video of the hilstrand boys firing guns at cans and even a stereo that was hanging from the crane, when it got hit it just fell in the water. On one episodes sig Hanson and the Northwestern guys put all their trash in another boats pot for a prank. When the pot was pulled up all the trash was everywhere and most of it appeared to be gone. If you watch close there are tons of other examples.

Like when the other guys pulled up their pot and it was a porta potty? That means the shit and paper and everything that was in it all went into the ocean. I don't know....just doesn't seem right to me. Funny as hell but not right.

:D

That's funny shit bilge. :thumbsup

Canada is in North America. I will bet he is Canadian. With that queer voice...shit he almost sounds like he is speaking French accent English. :D:D

Both my wife and I are thinking if the Coast Guard needs to pull a crabber rescue this season it's going to be on Mr. Homo's boat. You know the one he borrowed from his Daddy by begging.

Adding that guy to the show was because the producer knows the chances of real drama on the North American are high. :D

Did you see when they put it in the truck to take it to the boat? It only took 2 guys to pick it up into the bed. It HAD to be empty.

4-5 years ago we were told to bring everything in new policy so skipper wants to do the right thing right,so we hit Dutch with a deck full of shit and ask where do you want it and the dock guy says we need to rent a truck and try to hit the dump when they are open so we sit there for some time and finally drive around the island only to be told they wouldnt take half of our shit!I have two personal favorite areas that are 1200 plus fathoms for metal and stuff like that, all daily household type waste is brailered and taken to town.Used to be everything was thrown over the side but things are alot better now as the old school types leave the industry, the cardboard is stripped of plastic tape thrown over and breaks down very quickly in those seas

Ran into Sig a couple of weeks ago and after a few cocktails, okay more than a few got a chance to talk about what this show has done for our industry and we both agreed that the best part is the general perception of a fisherman as a whole is alot better.I no longer tell people what i do on the 5-6 hour Seattle to Boston flight so i can be left alone and buried in a good book

That's for sure and the fact that he can stay up for three days straight.

There is a blog on Discovery. Maybe I will sign us up and put this link in there.

The whale came up dead wrapped up in our gear kind of sad but at the time we were fishing Turbot and the whales were eating our catch right off the hook and killing us,it was a trip i didn't want to be on because of that so i was kind of giddy when i saw the whale.I know some people wont like that but its frustrating when we have the technology to ward them off and all the animal lovers will block it in court, there are thousands of miles of ocean and just need 8 for our gear.I am a long-liner and only know Sid from intro`s through mutual friends and usually refreshing at the same locations, man gets thirsty out there cool guy and his popularity isn't present when i have been around him.The town of Ballard,WA is home to allot of Norwegian fisherman and i have a few good friends that are Norwegian so we hang at the same places when in town working on the boats

So what the hell do you do with the dead whale? Unhook him and let him float away or yank him onboard and take him to the glue factory? Maybe tow him somewhere...a dead whale has got to be worth something right

This pic has a funny story behind it,right after i took it i was blabbing on the cell and walked around to the back entrance to order my nightly refreshment and dinner to take back to the boat i was staying on not noticing police and security all around so i blast right through into the closed restaurant without being stopped and have a seat at the bar,a gentleman walks up and asks me what i need and i tell him a Corona and a menu and he just stares at me so i`m like what man and he says you didn't notice the cameras and security around you,NOPE turns out it was a deadliest catch episode getting ready to tape, frickin hilarious! I hooked up with the crew later at another place and as soon as they saw me they busted out laughing turns out it was the producer or something and the crew got a total kick out of the whole thing, guess they had a hell of a laugh out of the deal. When i walked out the door here comes Mike Rowe and got a chance to say hi what a cool guy.The whole deal made me realize how much your attention can change while on the phone

Bye bye WMD as soon as i heard air escaping it was like get that thing away from here ASAP the smell would disable an infantry.Pulled a Walrus over the rail one night a few years back with the crane and straps and as i brought it over the rail out came the loudest belch you ever heard followed by the worst smell ive ever known, the deckhand helping me was dry heaving and within minutes crew were coming out the hatch with some pretty fucked up looks on their faces,i can laugh now but that was really bad

Great stories! This has been one of my favorite shows sense it was called the Deadliest Job almost 7 years back now. Your pics are telling. That deal about the walrus...I can almost picture it.

You guys are tougher than tough. Keep them coming.

And keep yourself safe...:)

We used to hoop net down her in so cal and you get some things in there you don't want but by the time they ascend the surface there is no saving them.

If someone is torqued about the killer whale just tell them they eat poor helpless seals.;)

Not tougher than tough more of a endurance deal when your mind starts to betray you
