I'm on my third receiver in 2 months...........the dish technician tells me the don't always have new units to replace the old one so most of the time they use used refurbished ones. He put one in and it was dead before he left...........is there any way to get them to put in a good (new) replacement?

I have direct, but I use the app on my smart tv. No box needed.
Doesn’t Dish have that?

What what? You mean streaming not using the dish/receiver at all? I didnt know they had that option without the whole dish + receiver requirement.

That would also put the onus on your internet service being up to snuff. Some peeps don’t have that.

Are you paying Directv for their equipment protection plan ?
As far as getting them to do anything --- best leverage I've found at Directv for equipment or price negotiation is asking for their "Retention Department" and I don't advise discussing the reason with any intermediates. Go directly to there and be insistent if you have to.

Don’t get me started with Dish, have it at the River place, all summer would go off loss of signal, all the fixes just worked for a hour or 2. OK send a technician 3 times appointments were not kept No Show!
They say if I cancel I owe early termination Fuck you, it’s your equipment that doesn’t work. So this last person said I’ve elevated this to the highest level you will get an email with your appointment time and date.

I have another idea, how about I block you from charging my CC!
I think I’ll go back to Directv😜

With Starlink you could probably stream your tv in as long as you don’t go crazy. Then you could dump the dishes.

Generally the refurbished receivers are reliable. Some models are not available as new. What model? What problem?

I thought that was a different service that you had to pay for DirecTV stream?

Likely hard drive. Only part that runs basically 24/7. If it’s hopper, hopper 2/sling, only refurbs available, again usually reliable. If it’s hopper 3, we request new for our stock and usually available . If it’s not a h/3 get them to upgrade you, request no new agreement because of the trouble you have had.🤷‍♂️

My mom has it. It’s called Directtv Gemini. It’s a small thin box. Works perfectly at her assisted living place because each apartment can’t have their own satellite dish. It has all the features of a dish but just stream.

Crime Families... they are just like water companies and waste companies.

I've had Dish for 15+ years and I am routinely plagued by failing equipment. Aside from Cox Cable there is nothing else to choose from where I live and I have Cox for telephone and Internet. Same bullshit with them also just not a frequent.

I would and do let them pretend to escalate your complaint. They wont easily let you be done.

It's like the song Hotel California instead sung by Fat Tony and Rocco.

The interweb is spotty where we are, lower River between Parker and Blythe, I think it’s just old equipment 7+ years in the desert, the Wally box, dish and cables exposed to the heat.

How old and reliable are the Wally box?
Wally's used to be finicky, but have been pretty good for years. No moving parts, so reliable.
Most common problem with hoppers is the hard drive, and not often. Biggest issues like anything today when updates are done for adding features and such it often creates a glitch somewhere and takes a while to get those resolved. The hopper 3 does a lot of processing, able to record and or watch 16 shows at once plus streaming services...
