did some winter head work and preventative maintenence and just want the tuneup checked...
set up is a quad rotor 540 with mfi 3 computer

Brian Macy of Horsepower Connection is based in Havasu, he's a pretty sharp guy, taught the EFI University class 3 or so years ago when i took it.

Give Ron Gibbs at Bad Attitude a call; 928 669 8870. Ron only knows one way and that is the right way.

Another vote for Brian Macy, he knows his stuff. He did my 588 with the Fast EFI, works awesome.

I would think Tom at Pro Marine would do it as well, being he has the dyno here in town?

Tom uses Brian, that's who did my re-power last year. Great combination of talent.

We are usually out in Havasu every other weekend in the season. We always have a lap top on us.
Your boat will need o2 sensor bungs installed and pictures if the setup, the history and a list of all the issues would be nice ahead of time for better preparation.
For our engine customers, usually this service is free of charge. For random case by case deals are usually priced on my mood. Lol
Anyway, we have thousands of engineered hours in our maps and you will get that.
From our experience being that we flash daily, most are close within 16% but none are spot on!
At times it may be mechanic condition related but if we do it be prepared for a long detailed adventure! 👍👍

Do it yourself (http://mefituning.com/mefi-tuning-tools) (http://www.mefiburn.com/) There are a number sites where you can get base tunes to start off with and then tweek it from there.

I appreciate your enthusiasm , but absolutely do not attempt to do it yourself, MEFI is a complicated nightmare for someone just trying to learn efi, and lake testing is not the place for anyone to learn efi as a beginner, that needs to happen on a dyno so you can watch repeatable results and get positive feedback by power output and other channels. On the water tuning is far more nuanced and requires a lot more experience, getting it to idle and shift is one thing (although much more difficult than you can imagine with MEFI because of it's complex method of attacking idle control, poor explanation and naming of the metrics, and lack of easily readable documentation). Tuning under power (higher throttle) without experience can, and likely will lead to broken engine parts, as you don't have the luxury of watching power increase, stay flat, or fall off, watching egt's, bsfc etc and a plethora of other feedback information. Being able to do that properly only comes with lots of experience.

boostpower (alexzi i assume) thanks for the post...fyi...i spoke with jerry at your place yesterday...am going to call in a couple of weeks and get on your schedule for the weekend of march 23....
i'll get as much baseline info as possible. i do know the imco powerflow exhaust has a bung on one side only...it is a mefi 3....most likely last tuned by dustin from whipple....

thanks for everyones input on this.....

tune it myself...no way in hell......would be fun to learn, but not on my motor!!!!

There is a difference in Tuning and flashing an ECM, if you had the tools to diy at least you would not be at the mercy of someone else.

I prefer to fish and not have someone serve me at there leisure.

Lol, you guys are funny. We make maps from scratch and they are proven and known non flawed maps. We usually flash them in as a baseline if the existing is not correct. We can get in any , hack any and adjust any -- many ways. We also have beginner level software so you all can do most parameters of it. Just depends on how far you wish to go.
If you or anyone you know has interest in learning more, we offer a quarterly school in house with DYNO time etc. We help anyone who asks including competitors and other mfg's.
if we can be of any assistance let us know. Thanks

I don't think a shop is "allowed" to make changes to the newer 2 stroke outboards. I'm not sure it's "legal." Lol.

Personally I wouldn't want to lose my reliability but why would it be illegal?

The new 2 strokes have a bunch of regulations with them. I'm just saying there are probably people out there that modify them, but you aren't supposed to.

Makes sense from an emissions standpoint but on like Havasu or Parker I'd think no one would bother you? Or are you saying that it's illegal for the company to modify for the consumer rather than it being illegal for the the boat owner to run it modified?

All i know is do not try it urself. I tried to map a multiport edelbrock system myself it took days and days still wasnt perfect not to mention countless calls & texts to alexi who was tons of help but can only do so much over the phone. It was a great learning experience but end result hours and hours wasted still had to have alexi come up and fix after that it ran great! I also have a daytona with a merc package that alexi mapped last summer its never ran better really smooth and crisp all the way through. Im very happy with the work BP has done for me!

So true. I know way more then I ever want to about air-fuel ratio. Hubby did our MEFI tune with me driving the boat. It took sometime but he did it. My hubby ROCKS :p We were fortunate even to have MEFI Bob on our boat for a bit after that and he only made a few minor changes for us. Now that Bob is way to busy we have been referred to Brian for any future help.

If you had your own copy of Mefi Burn you could get a tune file from anyone and not be at the mercy of any one tuner. Flashing a Mefi3 -4B ECM is not rocket science.

Yes, if you want we have those .bin files as well even though we use other software.
