I ask the Utah and Salt Lake City peeps here...is this for real?

I've done due diligence on the Kingston clan, and the "order".
How is this not national news and how are the Kingston brothers not in jail with Warren Jeffs?

Are these girls really rescuing their hundreds of siblings one at a time?

I've read the blogs and I see people nationwide offering help and support for these girls.
What's really going on?

Sadly this is all too real. I live in St George, very close to Colorado City. I grew up in northern Utah. The Kingston clan is not as visible as the group down here but it's the same BS! Sick, Cult, Thieves!

Well V, that is exactly my question. I see Warren Jeffs doing life plus 20, I see the kingston brothers doing multiple sentences for this and that, I see factual records of Daniel Kingston having 14 wives and 300 kids and banging 14 yo nieces...but these pervs also own the political and religious factions in Utah.

It's like CO City AZ, I've driven through it, go check it out.

Yes, I figured as much. It may be dramatized somewhat on tv, but the FLDS in your neck of the woods is still a major player. How these girls stay alive is my big question.
These men obviously have major stroke politically.

ive watched a bunch of shows on TV about these people. The situation is very difficult for the women/girls to leave. These women have to leave their families, brothers/sisters and their mother. Most won't leave. Sad deal for these women and children. Only a small number break free from this.

I was in the 99 cent store in Needles a year ago and there was a polygamy family in there. All
dressed in those long gowns and their pulled back hair. A couple young boys maybe 10 yo dressed like little Cowboys. It was very strange to see it in real life. Tried to make eye contact with the husband but he wouldn't look.

Never knew about this show, whatever it's called. Never been through either of those cities in UT or AZ, so I don't get the comment about "Cameras and Black trucks everywhere" ?

Film crews or Feds ??

I agree Koleen is damned cute, but she sure doesn't fit the stereotype, did she escape ?

The State of AZ is currently trying to de-certify the Colorado City Police Department and have Mohave County (Sheriff & courts) take over. The police department up there is just the enforcement/security arm of the FLDS. They harass and expel the non-believers non-members. The grounds for decertification is that they fail to enforce the laws, and actively participate in, such crimes as food stamp fraud, polygamy, tax fraud, child sex crimes, etc.

I went through the Academy in '88 with a guy from Colorado City with one of the common FLDS names (Barlow). He was older (I was 33) and a week after we graduated he, a rookie, was Colorado City Police Chief.

The black trucks and cameras are the FLDS enforcers. Their MO is to follow, film, harass and even assault non members.

Colorado city is FLDS...that's Warren Jeffs "cult".
Jeffs is serving life plus 20 years for various child sex convictions. It was a huge deal a few years back when they arrested him. Le temporarily took the entire population into custody to try to weed out if any girls were being held against their will or abused. But it's near impossible because, simply put, it is thier own family that enables and lives it. The FLDS is the more "fundamentalist" of the polygamysts. They are the ones that live in co city and wear the Amish clothes and don't speak.
In CO city, AZ the black trucks and enforcers are the "God Squad". And as Allen said they are the security arm of the FLDS ...disguised as Leo.

The Kingston clan are "the order". They are in and around SLC.
They do not dress like Amish, and do not live on a compound, although they do have lesser ranking wives living in squalor in clusters of apartments and trailers.

They run multiple business and have tens of thousands of members.

The girls on the show are from Kingstons. They all escaped in the past.
Koleen escaped some years ago before she had to get married.

It sucks for those women who are involved and believe there is no way out. Hats off to those willing to expose the B.S. that goes on in Colorado City, UT.

On a different note, a buddy and I went to visit a co-worker who relocated to Big Water (Outside of Page, AZ). We were sitting around the campfire one night talking about Colorado City and the mess that it is. So, what do we do?? We make a detour on our way back to L.A. :D

We turned off the highway and started driving through town nice and slow, with the tinted windows rolled up. :D Of course my sled has California plates so I'm sure that drew a little more attention.

Sure as shit, about a minute into this "Detour," a white F-150 pulls in behind us and starts following us. I drove north up towards the foothills and started cruising through some of the residential streets. This dude kept following us wherever we drove. All I could see of the driver was that he was an older white man wearing a cowboy hat. I'd pull up to a stop sign and he would drift back a bit so he wasn't directly behind us. Then he would roll through the stop sign to then close the distance. We played this cat and mouse game for a bit and it was entertaining at the least.

Colorado City is an interesting place though. There are women walking around who look like Laura Ingalls Wilder making you feel like you flew back in time. Most of the homes were unfinished and looked like they were abandoned. A large number of residences that had people living in them were surrounded with tall fences either made of wood or brick walls with steel gates. It was bizarre at the least.

After cruising around for about 15 minutes with the lone henchman on our tail, we decided this wouldn't be the best place to stop and grab some ice cream. We pulled back out onto the highway and headed back towards St. George. A mile or so down the road, the man in the white F-150 slowed, pulled off on to the shoulder and stopped. As we continued, I watched him make a U-turn and head back towards Colorado City.

Crazy place if you're up for an adventure. :D

I live in SLC and yes it is legit. What you also need to understand is there are all kinds of good people practicing polygamy. I have been friends with a family for 20 plus years that run very successful businesses etc. This particular family non of the kids practice polygamy. I have met a bunch of kids / people that did escape etc. There stories are crazy.

One wife in enough.
More people = more problems

More people equals more food stamps and welfare. More kids equals more young girls to trade, barter and rape and put to work in one of the hundreds of Kingston "order" businesses. (estimated total assets of over a BILLION dollars...:eek)
They violate multiple child labor laws by using all these kids as a labor pool.

It isn't like "Big love"...the Kingston brothers rarely even show up to the condemned type properties that they put the families on to live...except to impregnate or pick a girl to trade to one of their "numbered" men in a business deal.
One time in court, Daniel Kingston said straight faced that a bag of potatoes was what he considered sustenance for a wife and a dozen kids for a month...

Basically they are running their own slave network, pedophile and incest club, and PAC all in one.

Reading your account Backlash, I keep thinking "Twilight Zone", no thanks :eek

On another note, when we rebuilt after the 07' SD wildfire, my builder is a devout 7th Day Adventist and a close friend. During construction he employed a 7th Day Adventist assistant preacher and his 20 year old daughter from northern Ca. I was doing most of my own electrical and often this beautiful young lady was assisting. She was an excellent worker, barely spoke, no phone distractions, did exactly as instructed, but I couldn't help but to chuckle watching her work construction dressed like one of these FLDS gals, while wearing work boots and tool bags :D

Listening to her describe her life living on a rural farm and her normal daily activities of gardening, canning, sewing combined with home schooling, sounded like some alternate dimension.

Of course there was no polygamy or anything weird going on, just more of a lifestyle out of the early 1900s.

Awesome people and a real pleasure working with them all :thumbsup And no, we didn't talk religion and there was no preaching.

As a youngster I was around a lot of Amish in Northern Ohio, usually when my uncles would have them build a barn or outbuilding for the farms.
You can not beat them when it comes to that type of work.
Those Amish can build a barn that will last literally forever in under a week no problem at all.

Another part of the FLDS cult is to kick the young males out (banish them) when they turn 18. Unless they are well connected to the leaders' families, they've outlived their usefulness as minors for collecting welfare and food stamps, and provide competition with the older males for young girls. They drive them to SLC or Flagstaff and push them out of the truck with just the clothes on their backs, a few dollars for bus fair, and little else.

We moved from California to Utah 4 years ago, and settled in Cottonwood Heights. There is a "Multi Family" just at the mouth of little Cottonwood Canyon, we saw them just Saturday in their Ford van, they went to the McDonalds in Sandy, they like to play in the Play area inside on hot days. They don't buy any food. There were 4 women and 13 kids, all wearing hand made clothes. Really plain looking people, they look as if the life has been programmed out of them. One of the moms looks like she could be kinda hot if fixed up, the others are really plain. It is super strange here if you start paying attention...

All in all, we like Utah, this just gives us something to talk about. Here, it's the LDS... in Cali it was the Prius Democrats.

I have been here most my life and live in Herriman now. People don't realize Utah is less than 50% LDS now. It is rare I run across any LDS people that really throw it out there. When I grew up I got a lot of the I can't play with because you don't go to church. My kids have a lot of active friends and they all get along great. I would bet you have been to business owned by polygamist's...

What really gets old is the non members that go way out of there way to show they are not mormon, they usually end up looking like complete asses.

Huh what, 7th Day Adventist?
My daughter attends an Adventist school and church and they are no different than you and I, other than "devout" Adventist being vegetarian and not wearing flashy jewelry or driving exotic cars, both of which they could easily afford. In fact there was a member here and on HB that is a Physician, and a highly-paid DJ. No farm stuff, lol, all the Adventist kids have cell phones at school.

Maybe you have the Adventist confused with another religion? :)

For those not up to traveling to Colorado City, if you want to get similar kicks, drive out to the Scientology compound on Gilman Hot Springs Road in San Jacinto. Pull up to the guard house and just stare at them...that's always a good time. :yikes

Okay, so I have been through Colorado City several times and I have heard many of the stories about the place. What is the deal with the unfinished homes? Is that to avoid taxes since the homes are not done? Also, beware the section of I15 between Mesquite, NV and St George, UT. That section is Arizona and from what I heard it is Colorado City's police that have jurisdiction there. Good luck gwtting out of that ticket or getting it reduced.

I find many of the older LDS neighbors are really nice and seem to get along with everyone, in general, really good people. The new generation is a pile of pricks, can't stand them.

Yes I love it hear. I would have a very hard time moving away. Mostly because of the snowmobiling. I would be happy to tell you about some good places to eat also.

I've worked with devout Mormons in the oil field.
To a man they were very cool guys.
Devoted husbands and fathers, extremely non- judgmental, and all around good dudes that didn't drink or smoke or drink coffee.

You guys know more about it than I do, but to me the polygamist offshoots can't hardly be compared to today's Mormon person?

The shit that Jeffs and the Kingstons feed their "flocks" is just insanity.
It all comes down to a fucking gang of pediphiles.

Kingstons came to be "the order" after their dad or grandpa fought with the Jeffs over who was the rightful prophet to take over FLDS years ago.
So they just started their own fucking incest cult.
To me, they are just as about as far removed from any religion as can possibly be.

On a side note Deb and I did run into a young man that was obviously polygamist at a wing joint near Provo while headed to Price. Maybe owned by a group.

We noticed no beer was visible anywhere after being seated so we asked the guy if they served beer. Boy he went off on a sermon about how no beer would ever be served there and we were not welcome to dine there.
We agreed wholeheartedly and left.

He's a buddy who relocated to Big Water a couple years ago. The absolute most incredible stand-up guy you could ever have. A co-worker, mentor and a damn good friend. Him and his family moved into a home on Victory Lane. Directly up from the marina.

I lived in Salt Lake for a while and went to the Beehive House, Brigham Young's house. I asked the lady giving the tour why they called it the Beehive House and she gave me some lame reason. I told her my take on that name was that he was busy like a bee hitting all the girls he could. She didn't think my comment was funny but I laughed my ass off...
