Float bar VS winch

So I am putting old man guides on my trailer and am working on using winch and pad rather than float bar. So the Idea I have is that the angle of the bow is slight enough that I am concerned that the winch will pull it off bunks and on hard stop possibly climb? Anyone else ever do this? I made a stop that is a bit long and would interfere with the clip but can be

I like what you have but be careful as different angled ramps may play hell with you and your bow eye corral may turn into a harpoon. I use a winch on my Day Cruiser, I don't really pull with the winch, I just float the boat and then tighten everything up, by the time time the boy eye is up that far your keel is locked on the trailer so there should not be much side to side at the bow.

I did the same thing over the summer. Float bar alone sucks when you are hooking up by yourself. Wife can get the boat to the trailer, but hooking it up and centered is the PIA.

Don’t use the pad at front , it will wear into gel , use a roller . A roller is more forgiving when the trailer flexes going down the road .

Some of my wife's and I best brawls were over a damn float bar. A little farther forward was ALWAYS too much as was a little farther back.

So far no one has answered the question about the bow angle and braking ? Will the shear weight keep it from sliding up? Anyone have a stop? I am putting this as far forward as possible so that I can put jack behind it/weld in, I hate side mount jacks!

I did the same to mine a few years ago. Eliminate the float bar and install a bow stand with a winch. Made a world of difference. My keel angle is similar to yours. I have never had an issue with the boat moving on the bow stand. I would absolutely get rid of that little bow eye catch. I can already see that being a HUGE issue on a steeper ramp. Also, like was said previously, I would change to a bow roller. If you keep a strap on the bow eye while trailering (and possibly a safety chain or something along those lines) it will keep the bow down and not allow it to jump over the roller or pad. They have been done that way for decades with little to no issue.

Weld another loop on the trailer to attach a strap/chain/cable to hold the bow down and back.

I think the point is, if the winch were to fail, or wasn't locked for some reason, having the safety strap on the bow going behind the bow eye would give the boat a bit of slack to slide rearward.

I personally fear that, because the safety strap is rearward to the bow eye, but honestly, it would still hold the boat on the trailer even if it slid backwards because it wouldn't let the bow rise up. It might trash your outdrive depending on how close that is to the ground normally, but that still beats picking your boat up off the road completely because you had no safety strap.

I also safety strap at the rear to the two eyes on the stern to keep the boat from bouncing on the trailer, and that will also help restrict the boat from moving rearward.

TL;DR: The safety straps are better than nothing but a winch lock, regardless of where they mount. But if you have them and don't use them, its just as bad.

So this deal is a v drive so rear straps are out, I am puting on a safety cable so if strap brakes it will catch it. My concern is forward movement while braking.

There won't be forward movement unless in an emergency situation. With a bow stand the movement has to be forward AND up AND have a failure of the bow and emergency strap.
