Pretty cool from the underside.
Definitely hit terminal velocity before you reach the water.Beautiful place. Also a premier location for suicide. Changed my perspective a bit after looking into it.

The Bay was gorgeous yesterday. We had lunch in Oakland Estuary then picked up friends in SF. Ran out under the Gate then hustled home to Benicia before dark.
Are you guys headed out on a cruise?
My ship passed the bridge at 0500 am so I lost some sleep to get this shot. View attachment 622123
No, we did the Coastal Cruise last year. That’s about what time we rolled under the GG last Friday returning to port. We’re you on the same cruise?

Effective, yes. terminal velocity, not even close.![]()
I believe a 200ft freefall is all you need to reach terminal velocity.
Today, I believe I'll trip over a kilo of thousand dollar bills. If I do, I'll buy you a new engine for the chug.![]()
Well alright then. So no accurate distance to fall to TV, just conjecture, Noted.
I don't need your money, I have plenty of my own. I did need one of your live centers, but I bought one instead.

Had I known you were in need of a live center, I wouldn't have converted my Royal into a plumb bob.![]()

interesting. GG is 800 foot tall or so bridge is 3/4 of the way down...so 200 foot above the water. Here you go..."Answer: "A typical skydiver in a spread-eagle position will reach terminal velocity after about 12 seconds, during which time they will have fallen around 450 m(approx 1,500 ft)." Found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall under Examples."

After watching the video Wheeler posted, I'm curious. There's folks with cameras setup just waiting and watching to film jumpers ?
The Golden Gate is a Mecca for videographers, photographers, and the painting/drawing types. At any given moment there are hundreds of camera’s and people observing the bridge.
Not that hard to imagine how these people are captured making the leap.

The video is credited as 'The Bridge', which is just edited parts of the full length documentary that t&y posted (post #14). I'm sure there's been a number of jumpers recorded otherwise though. The media in the Bay Area largely quit reporting suicide jumpers from the GG. The heartbreaking suicides from GG are the few reported 4 and 5 year old kids that were forced to jump or thrown off by the father and then the father jumped off as well. Makes you numb.
Oh my, no, don't want to watch that --- but thanks for filling me in.
