too much, or not enough oil...wrong filter???

I used the oil change kit that they sell at the dealer so it came with everything I needed oil filter and the exact quarts of oil needed

My guess is your belt is on its way out . Seems like my brother would get a check engine light right before breaking on long rides if everything else seems fine. Hopefully whatever it is , it is something small . Once figured out please let us know.

Can you ask your brother if it would loose power when the check engine light came on

Belt on its way out will sometimes send a misfire or similar code that puts car in limp mode. Turn off turn back on it runs fine until it happens again. Been a minute since I’ve had a rzr code but a series of button presses will display the codes.

You don't have a turbo 1000.
Anyway most likely belt causing misfire code and going into limp mode. Common codes 65590 and 65592

How many miles/hours?

When's the last time you inspected or cleaned clutches?

What do you mean I don’t have a turbo 1000?

You have a turbo or a 1000, it isn’t both.

Look up how to read the codes on the rzr dash. Then look up the code you find

If it is a misfire code your belt is probably slipping. Drive around in low for 1/4 mile or so above 3000-4000 rpm to get it out of limp mode. If the problem is gone the code will clear.

If you are trying to rock crawl in high gear you are doing it wrong. Put the car in low gear for slow technical stuff.

And change the belt or get a spare one because you are taking life off off it by slipping it.

Sorry new to utvs I have a turbo

And I have a spare I will inspect the one that is on there now when I get home

It’s just really confusing to me because it was fine before the oil change and now I did the oil change drove it around my block a few times pull it off the trailer let it warm up for 5 mins get my helmet on to go ride within 5 mins down a dirt road it starts doing it then it goes away for like I said 4-5 hours and come back just dose not make sense to me but this is all new to me I am coming from a bike

No worries.

Look up how to read the code, on the dash, and see what the code is. That will start to put a picture together of what could be up with it.

as far as the belt goes.... never run in high till you warm up to 180 degrees... always use low when going on and off trailers... when fisrt going out I run low for about a mile or so going slow.... then shift to high... my 2014's had the stock belts and when we checked them right before we got rid of them. they still were like new... I've had rzr'z since they first came out and new ever had to change a belt.. camp racers change belts all the time...warm the belt up is key..

100% it’s the belt. It doesn’t mean the belt is going out but you probably slipped the belt hot rodding it on the street.

Put the car in low gear and drive a mile or more at half throttle and do not change RPM’s. Keep the throttle steady the entire time. The check engine light will go off and come out of limp mode.

Then go and buy a clutch upgrade kit and you won’t have this problem in the future.

I put the EPI clutch kit on mine that I sold to @Activated

I had minimal hours to try it before I sold it. Maybe he’ll chime in with an update. It definitely kept the RPM’s in a way better zone than the junk stock clutch they come with.

What makes you say that
Like others have said check your error codes on your dash. FYI - When the belt starts slipping the engine and transmission will spin at different rpms causing it to go into limp mode. That is likely why when it cooled down it ran good for a while after it reset itself. Just change your belt to rule it out if your in doubt. There’s a lot of people including myself on here that own XP’s so it’s a good idea to listen 👂

With only 25 Hours you’ve likely just smoked the belt. (FYI - Sometimes they can look ok to the naked eye but they’ve become work hardened and don’t grip well) XP Clutches have always been suspect from the factory. Most people just swap them out at around 2K-3K miles when they finally shit the bed, lol.

Would you say it’s better just do the clutch kit now and get it over because if I wait until the stock one is smoked it will cost me more money in the long run correct

change the belt, start it up and put it in reverse, back it up for 40 to 50 yards. Put it back in high a drive it around. Check engine light will reset, power restored. You're welcome.

That's just the dust seal which let in a lot more dust and hopefully you didn't go through water
That's why you need to go over your ride. Looks like the factory didn't install it correctly.
Quality control isn't one of Polaris' high points

I have a BIG HP turbo snowmobile, they are belt drive basically identical to the SxS junk. I am very cautious about how I break the belts in, and I wash them with Dawn dish soap when they are new to remove grease and oil off of them. I have gained about 25% more life out of belts since starting this routine.

I used to ice drag sleds and the belt was a key factor.
Problem with SXSs is all the dirt that gets in the clutches. Surprised they last as long as they do.
OP needs to get a belt temp gauge

Just ordered one and still going to do the clutch kit and throw a new belt on just to be safe

No major issues belt wise but I experienced the same belt/engine light thing last year. Followed your advice and ran it at the same rpm for a few minutes and all was good. No issues since.

I haven’t had it out this season yet…life keeps getting in the way.

Order a couple while you are at it. You should have a minimum of 1-2 spare belts on your rig at all times. When we took long trips, I would keep a used one and then my Brand New One with my "Belt tool kit" ready to go at all times. Of course, since I had that, I never smokes a belt in 3000 miles. LOL

When you carry a belt and tools, you never smoke a belt. :)

We had a RZR go into limp mode and throw a misfire code that turned out to be a dirty air cleaner. Happened at about 10,000 ft in Utah.
