I’m looking at building a custom home and we have our eye on a couple of lots. I would like to do a basic floor plan design with garages etc. to overlay on the lot before I pull the trigger on the lot. I want to see how it lays out on the lot before we go through using an architect, as it’s an odd shaped lot. I know all setbacks etc. Anyome have any Software or app they would recommend for a basic home plan where I can design a home?

I use CADD for business. SketchUp? :dunno: I have used a few apps in an attempt to have the ability on my Ipad. I have not found any that I like yet. My son is a few years out of school for architecture. I will ask him and respond later If there is anything That would work. He is working on two RV garages and another house for me.

If you just want a general outline I could have him do it for you. It wouldn’t take that long. Now if you want full blown drawings that will cost you. LOL. Have you had the lot surveyed?

Try Autocad LT, you could get a month to month subscription to use the online app, its like $60 a month and cancel it when you dont need to use it anymore...very basic 2D program, very easy to use.

Also, if you are new to design software, I would stay away from any of the 3D applications, even if you dont use them, there are usually a ton more commands that will just confuse you even more. Stick with a 2D platformed software.

I have used Autocad in the construction design world since it was DOS command....I am currently working with Autocad 2020.

if you know the bearing and distances of the lot lines, i could lay it out and make you a pdf and email it to you. Then you could print it, get an Architectural scale and hand draft it.

+1 on sketch up. I had my old house all drawn and the used layers for electrical circuits, lightings, gas lines, plumbing, etc.
