Looking at a boat with the new Merc 8.2L. Any dirt on this motor. Good bad things to know? Thanks for the info.

I'm no expert but I hear it's much better than a 496. It's a 502 block with aluminum heads, and actually comes out of Merc Racing, not Mercruiser. Hear it's a great engine as is but has the quality to handle mods, which is usually not recommended for the 496.

If it's anything like the 496HO leave it stock and it will live forever. Turn the key and enjoy.
Yes 502 block at 4.7x4.0 bore/stroke. 8.75:1 compression... 87 octane.
I think this is going to be a really nice motor
With catalytic converters?? Btw pretty sure carb compliance fucks you on upgrades as well..
Those regs didn't seem to stop the performance aftermarket for cars. With no smog checks on boats, I don't think it would be a huge issue?
The new 496HO is 430 horse and comes out of Mercruiser. You have to bump up to the 520 (or more) for Merc Racing.
There's a link on the bottom of page 1 or top of page 2 of the "Merc 520" thread that breaks some of the engines down.

Exactly what it is.
From what I can tell after first time out in the new boat ,It sounds better than the 496 did.
Haven't really opened it up yet, still breaking it in .
8.2 in a 26 deck?? 70mph all day for years..........
Maybe 60 all day long and 65 max when you have a full load
Been available since 2010 which is the year of the boat we are looking at. Why haven't the builders been using it more over the past couple years. Seems like most boats that have been built in the last 3-4 years have a 496.
