The bezel was screwed on but it was also glued on. When I paint I remove all trim like switch plates, blinds, door knobs... the job looks better afterwards

Just as you said. I missed that as I was perusing the responses. Thanks man.The inside trim plate may unscrew and thread off like on an Emtek , Baldwin, or commercial style Schlage exposing two phillips screws on the inside plate depending on the series of lock set. . Also.... it looks like someone painted or repainted the door with the hardware still on it so may make it a little harder to break loose to unscrew it
